Wonder how much it costs and the weight

That is absolutely amazing.

What is amazing is how effective it would be for personal use. Right now you have to pick between light or thick to get decent protection from rifle rounds. If 1.6" will stop a 50 BMG I bet 1/2" would stop most rifle rounds.

I know it says transparent aluminum but I wonder if it actually processes like metal. If it does then it is another amazing break through. I remember seeing Star Trek when they taked about transparent aluminum when saving some whales. I thought to myself that would be an amazing day. Hopefully it has arrived because having a transparent metal would change the world.

Did it say how far the round was shot from the glass?

It says at muzzle velocity so I would assume point blank. And that is awesome

Tapatalk ate my spelling.

Yeah, could you imagine if the weight isn't that bad what kind of impact this will have on armored vehicles in the future?  No more 3+" thick windows to stop a 7.62

I recommend reading the entire article (6 pages) from How Stuff Works...  appears cost is a serious deterrent, at this time.
