Stuck case extractor

Ok, this is embarrassing. This has happened one other time when I first started reloading. It was late last night, wanted to size one round to try something fast, wasn't thinking, no lube, stuck case. That's what I get for telling the wife ill be up in a minute to go to bed and I walk right into my man cave.

So, does anyone live around Nashville that has the tool willing to extract the case for me please....?

Did you try removing the decapping rod and use something to tap the case down/out of the die? A punch or small socket extension depending on the caliber.

I'm a good hour away or would help you out.

I did. I even made a special length rod, turned the die upside down in my single stage, and tried to press the case out using the press and leverage. Nothing. Not even a budge.

How deep is the case stuck? I had a friend bury one, and with no extractor in sight, we went the old school bearing fix. We put the die in the freezer for a bit, then took a propane torch to the brass and it slipped right out.

Used this method on many a tractor bearing to get it off or on when it was press fitted.

I put tractor pistons sleeves in a freezer and pressed them into the block quickly. Cool how that works! The guys that told me to do that probably can't spell physics but its damn cool when it works!

I'll try that. Was considering it, BUT wanted to see if anyone had the special took for it first.

Got it. Freezer trick did it. Let it sit for 3 hours in there, put the die on the press, hit it with a punch 3 times and it popped right out. Thanks gentlemen for your help!!!!!!!!

Glad you got it out easy and it didn't cost you anything. I stuck a .357 case in a RCBS standard steel die once (not a carbide die) and sent it back to RCBS with a note saying that I would pay to have it removed and they replaced the die free. RCBS is great! Its not happened to me since though.

Fwiw u can use a 1/4 20 tap and drill bit avail from any hardware store. Basically you drill through the primer hole, tap it and use a bolt w a wrench or ratchet with a washer and small socket to pull the case out similar to using a wheel puller or bearing puller. It works pretty good, takes about 2 minutes once ya get the hang of it. I did the same thing when I first started working 300 loads. The first time I did it it took an hour and I thought for sure I was gonna toast a die. a quick net check revealed the drill tap n pull thing. Hope this helps stuck cases suck...especially when using lube....

That's actually one of the two tools I was hoping to borrow from someone. Rcbs also makes something if I remember correctly. The freezer thing might take longer, but man, it works great.

I got some brass brazing rods, 3 foot long, 1/8", 1/4" and 3/8" diameter. Cut each a little longer than the die and the barrel. They are good for stuck cases and squibs. I picked up some 3/16" bronze rod that is great for 223s.
