Fishing in Johnson City

Anyone do any fishing in Johnson City? I would like to catch some catfish or stripes or trout. Just some fish to eat. I've went to Watauga lake quite a few times and caught  a couple but not enough to help. Thanks for any help.

Edit: I meant I have been to Boone Lake. The walkway/pier thingy under the overpass by the park.

A cousin of mine lives on Boone Lake closer to Boone dam. He fishes the lake for stripes and Watauga river from the dam down stream to Elizabethton for trout.

Stay away from the walkway about or after dark unless that crowd is your kind of thing

I have never been there at night, so thanks for the warning.  I have about gave up on fishing there.  I have caught a couple good ones, but not enough to warrant going back many more times.

He says you can't do any good from the bank, a little better from a pier or slip. He caught a large stripe from his kayak. They covered lots of water before landing it.

About 5 years ago we were there on vacation. I fished the walkway one morning with minnows for anything that would bite. I was in the left corner of the covered point of the walkway. Using a 14 foot B&M telescopic pole fishing 12 foot deep. #7 spilt shot some 15 inches from the hook. You can't cast this rig, just get it out as far as you can, kinda flipping it. The float wouldn't stand up. Watch it to do a little wiggle and pull the fish in. I had 10 crappie by 11 am.

If i am going to eat catfish, I only keep and eat flathead. I'm not sure about the lake you are on, but more than likely similar to several I fish here. The flathead eats live fish, so catch as many bluegill (war mouth) works great, and hook them on jugs (I use pool noodles with reflective tape on one end) and set as many as you can anywhere from 3 to 15 ft deep along rocky banks. Sit back and wait in the fun.

In 2 nights just before our 4th of July fish fry, we caught 65 1/2 lbs of flatheads. All on live bait. Friend tried chicken livers and night crawlers, and only caught channel cat on them, the biggest being 2 lbs. we pulled in our biggest flathead at 23 lbs.

The reason I'm so picky about the flatheads is its all white meat, no yellow or foul tasting parts at all.
