Long time getting Handgun Carry Permit Renew-Update

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

On April 22 I renewed my carry permit at Millington's Department of Motor Vehicles.  As of today I still have not received my new carry permit.  I did call Nashville last month and was told they are behind because of the demand for carry permits.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I finally received my Handgun Carry Permit in the mail this afternoon.  I took a long 3 months to get here.

My renewal for last August expiration date took over 4 months (I called and got app sent before I got the auto notice).  I was just about to have to start carrying the letter with my expired one.

Called, no real explanation, gal said would "look into it and get back to me". New permit appeared a few days later, one day before expiration.

'Course my original permit took 2 days short of the 90, and that was after emails and phone calls, too.

Just called the number on website to get app snail mailed to me. (615) 251-8590

The automatic one showed up about a month later, too, but had already sent the first one in. They were actually different type forms, one had carbons, one didn't best I remember.

At any rate I got the "received, carry this letter just in case" letter after submitting the early one, was surprised it took so long, didn't really think about it again till about 10 days before mine actually was about to expire.

Mine was set to expire in Aug, I sent in the renewal in June (1st'ish) and received my new permit this last weekend. So figure about a month and a half turn around right about now.

Mine renewal was due in March, last December I mailed in my form and to my surprise I had it in less than 3 weeks.I will definately go the mail method again. It seems from a few guys I have talked to it takes longer when you go to TDOT.Dont know why it should matter. My first permit took 2 days shy of the 90.

The wife's renewal came  in about 30 days. The agency probably knew she can not stand incompetence in government or otherwise ...........................Of course, she got a "carry this form" letter prior to receiving the permit and another "carry this form" letter a few weeks after receiving the permit.

No rhyme or reason to it seems. Most folks reported getting their permits or renewals in 5 weeks or less back last Aug when mine took over 4 months. Guess I wouldn't have had it yet if I hadn't called.

I renewed mine back in  2012.. went to the Gallitin DMV office, had the new permit in less than 3 weeks.

I renewed mine first of the year, due to expire end of May. It only took about five weeks. Now the original took about five months.

I renewed mine last year and it didn't take too long if I remember correctly. I was the last transaction that went through before the bank put my debit card on the "hot" list, so I remember it!  Since I had a hassle and double paid the 1st renewal I had I have made a point of starting the process early and doing it face to face. I renewed by mail once and when I got mine originally they didn't require a copy of your birth certificate, now they do. Took me 3 trips and 2 different testing centers for someone to tell me why. I was pretty mad after 3 round trips with gas as high as it was/is.

Mine was in the mail when I got home Thursday. It's been less than two weeks I believe. I wasn't expecting that. I've had the "You can carry with this letter" letter about a week but haven't used it.

The people at the Gallatin DMV station seem to know the right buttons to push evidently. When I got my first one there it took 17 days and I had my photo card. A few buddies I know that went for theirs there got them in less than 30 days every time. Same with renewals. A lot faster.
