The news this morning is reporting that a lot of stores are refusing to sell the magazine. As they should! What in the world was "Rolling Stone" thinking. They did this same thing with Charles Manson.

Rolling Stone mag features rock star bomber Dzhokhar Tesarnaev

http://now.msn.com/rolling-stone-dzhokhar-tsarnaev-cover-criticized?ocid=ansnow11

From the article:  "Rolling Stone is standing by its cover."

What else are they going to do? Can you imagine how much it would cost to do another print run with a different cover?

I hope the damn things pile up on their loading dock and dumpsters across the country.

I've got a subscription, so I'll be getting one in the mail. I think I'll take it to the range for target practice. I think some ranges get a little touchy about human picture or human silhouette targets . . . (??)

It's all designed

to blow our mind

but our minds won't really be blown.

Like the blow that'll getcha when you see the pitcha

Of a bomber on the Rollin' Stone.

I wish I could like this about 50 times.

If you want to really make a statement, mail it back to them with a note asking to cancel your subscription.

To each their own and not trying to knock anyone but I have had the time of day for RS since I was maybe 12.

Makes me like Disturbed even more.

He pretty much nailed it, screw em. I do have to disagree with

"OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, ROLLING STONE HAS BECOME LESS AND LESS ABOUT MUSIC, AND HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE ABOUT BULLS**T"

Rolling Stone has been going downhill much longer that, this is a new low though.

It used to be about the music, now it's about promoting a douchebag to douchebags. Its now cool to build ieds. fng aholes. They'd really impress me if they put mcveigh, Unabomber, Stalin, and hitler all together on the next cover. Hugging and kissing via photoshop...Rolling stone my ass.

Disgusting to say the least. Obviously they had no family members running in that marathon.....well, given their displayed ethics and morals, maybe they did and still don't care

I've been running Metal on Pandora for the past few weeks, and have rediscovered Disturbed. I use to have a hard time listening to their music years back because I took some of their anti-war lyrics a little personal. But I have to say, I love it when they reinvent music from the 80's. I didn't know they did "Shout".... effing awesome!

Heard something similar on the radio (Sirius Patriot) yesterday.. One of the top syndicated female rock D.J.s was interviewed and said basically who cares, she and most of the D.J's she knows havent even picked up a RS in years.

(Said she had not read an RS magazine in 5 years at least, they became irrelevant to the rock scene years ago)

EDIT: On that same show, and I cant remember which one it was, but they said some major magazine in response to RS put a photo of the bomber on their cover, taken by a tactical photographer, of the bomber at the moment of capture, face covered in blood, through the scope of a sniper rifle.

RS has always been on my "don't care" list. Just couldn't get interested in it. Been so long since looking at one, what, is it people magazine for rockers or what?

Way back way back, Hunter S. Thompson wrote a lot for Rolling Stone. Some of his writing wasn't too tedious to read, though I found a great deal of his stuff too tedious to bother with. Then they finally made a movie of fear and loathing in las vegas, which managed to be a movie even more tedious than plan 9 from outer space. So what did Thompson's writing have to do with music, even way back way back?

But anyway the main music oriented stuff I found interesting was gear head stuff about geetars, synthesizers, amplifiers and signal processors and software. And music theory articles, and articles about how to hold the hands to make it easier to play fast and accurate. Etc. Better mags for that than RS. But its been years since I read any music mag. I don't really care what synthesizer and software the latest brain-dead trance artist is using. Maybe one of these days those guys will discover that it is possible to perform a song which contains more than one chord. :)

This is clearly a shameless stunt to drum up sales and website hits so they can sell advertising space on an already failing and irrelevant rag. Hopefully the next terrorist attack will happen at Rolling Stone headquarters. I bet they wouldn't put them on their cover.

That's pretty much it. They have been irrelevant for years, bet shock tactics are the only way to have a decent month anymore. I will say on that end I bet they would put just about anyone on their cover if it shocked enough people into buying tha rag to see "WTF up with that?!"

I'm a take a page out of your book TMF and go ahead and say that I wish they would be gang raped by a pissed off group of rhinos.

It’s in poor taste, but they are just trying to bump subscriptions up. Most of their subscribers have switched to AARP magazine. biggrin.gif
