Anyone here running NVG's?

Or am I the only one?

Got back from my deployment and got myself a PVS-14 and an LDI OTAL IR laser. Been looking to get out and shoot after dark, but it's still pretty late when the sun goes down and the neighbors probably wouldn't be too happy about it.

So anyone know where a guy can go shoot after dark?

Porn.

Kegger, get yourself a dedicated 22 upper with a suppressor and go shoot in THEIR back yard ;o) ... love shooting the AR platform suppressed with 22s... full auto even better.

All seriousness aside, we had a Yotes problem around here few years back.  Tried to get the county to allow a few deputies to go out and take care of them.   Depending on where you live, you may can use your experience and services to offer something like this ... I've seen Coyotes, deer, hogs and other animals drive local farmers crazy .. might have some fun and be getting paid a little too.

Anything you do would be best if you could swing for a suppressor... no doubt you know how distictive a 5.56 is fired unsupressed on a silent night.

If you get a chance, post some pics.... I had a nice Thermal on mine but sold and and have been teetering between 14s head-mounted or behind an aimpoint or something like that ... not sure... lot of folks who do night crawling recommend the 14s be head mounted and that may be very well what you're experience was too.  I'm just wanting something to fit my patrol that would be easy and effective and quick to deploy.  I have an AI 308 too that's so itching for PVS-22 setup out front of it ... but I think a set of 14s on my 416 would be adequate.

As of now, I have an old set of 7Bs that I've used for 20 years or so ... they work but need to be upgraded bad.

Welcome back!

I'm working on the suppressor now, hopefully an AAC M4-2000. But with NFA waits as long as they are, I dont want to have to wait 10 months to shoot with this setup.

We've got a bad yote problem and the neighbors want them gone too, but without all the noise at 2AM.

I literally just got my PVS14 yesterday.  I already have several suppressed guns, so night time shenannigans are probably coming soon.

You deployed? Hell, I thought you just fell into a girl and couldn't get back out :) Good to see you back.

Yep, deployed came back then fell into a girl and now I really can't get out if you catch my drift.

They are a ridiculous amount of fun, just be careful to keep a cap on 'em during the day or you'll junk that tube quick.

I would use head mounted for 99% of the night time shooting I would do. I had a laser and a Eotech, I would zero one at 25 yards and the other at 50 yards. And as long and the targets (jackals) were centered between the two dots it was a hit out to 300-400 yards. It also makes shooting pistol a little easier with a head mounted setup.

I really do need to get a NV setup. It would make my suppressed, night time nuisance animal eradications a lot easier.

That helmet-mounted rig looks lots better than my po excuse for NVGs. A long time ago it seemed like a good idea at the time to buy some surplus russian gen 1 head-mounted goggles that weighed about 47 pounds and attached with a complicated multi-strap head harness that looked like a San Fransisco Gay Pride Parade S&M costume. :)

is that a parachute on the back?

Of course.... you know how fast I am.  :tough:

Actually it's a counterweight... makes the whole thing a lot easier to wear.

I finally got some materials in so I can finish my new dome cover. Gonna make a helmet cover, and a strobe/counterweight bag to hang on the back. Will post up some pics once it's done.

Dcloudy, that's a nice bump helmet setup you got there, I'd love to have one but the TC2001 just looks so pimptastic.

I feel like necro-posting tonight.

Been a while since I've been around, but deployments will do things like hamper your ability to be lazy on the internet. One thing they help with however is wantonly spending money. So I bought some things.

Mainly these.

Adams Industries Sentinels and a DBAL I2 IR/IR. Also a large pile of gun parts to build a couple new guns and suppressors. Gonna be happy, fun, blackedout, blasty time when I get home next month.

Do you take a shot of the Knob Creek before you put it on or after you take that rig off?
