Crimped Primers

They smooshed some brass around the primer pocket hole to make sure the primer doesn't fall out. Just means it's more work to reload, because the primer pocket now has to be swaged.

Good news is you only have to swage/ream once then they load like commercial brass

Generally you only find crimped primer pockets on military brass

it can be a few dimples like staking or look like a whole ring around the primer

I used one of those, Gordon. They work okay, but I had to pay too much attention to each case while cleaning

them out. Dumbass me ruined a few cases with it. I wonder if I can ream out a pocket to use 50BMG primers? :D

I like the mundane jobs to get on down the road. The one I used may have been a bit too big.

It is a good idea, though. Harbor Freight has many other toys to figure out that probably work fine.

For a small amount, a chamfer tool will cut them out just fine. If we're talking thousands, I'd buy a primer pocket swager.

A chamfer tool in a stationary drill is quicker than any swager.

My cheapo way to do it is a round file in my drill press.  I cut them off so that I can ream out to the base of the pocket.  I found one for large & another for small pockets.  Cherokee Slim
