Terry, I'm going to be in your boat before long...I already have 1 derringer, 4 pistols and 3 rifles to look after..and it wont be long before the long gun count goes up by at least 2 and the pistol count will go up by 2 as well...thats all I can see buying THIS year. NEXT year though..it may get better.

Well Im actually in need one one pretty quick. My father passed and I inhereted alot from him as well as my own. Right now there still in his safe but it goes to my brother inlaw so i have to get my own. I guess it gives me an excuse to get one. Not including mine there ar 14+ rifles and a few sorted handguns.

Temporarily you can convert a closet to a gun safe. It is not an ideal solution, but if you have an interior coat closet etc, you can replace the hollow core door on it with a solid one from Lowed or Home Depot. When you do this replace on of the screws from each hinge with a double headed nail and drill out the corresponding hole in the door side to accept the head of the screw. Install a deadbolt lock on the closet and you have a "poor mans" gun safe. Is it the most effective way? nope but even pulling the hinge pin out won't get some one in that room. It is a cheap mans safe room too. Granted, with enough time and effort, the door can be broken down, but that is what alarms on the house are for. PS. If you have an alarm on your house, you can have this closet wired up to it also. Extra protection incase some one is able to get in to the house with out setting the alarm off.

As for actual gun safes, well, I could probably use a large one since my rifle collection has grown, but I don't have space for it now.

I was kinda thinking of using your idea about the closet before you mentioned it. Someday when i build my shop im gonna build in a safe room. But till then Ill just have to make do. I was looking at a heritage safe company in memphis thinking about going down there and looking to see what they have.
