Carry at the gun shop

I think Im just going to put up a sign that says all firearms have to be checked by a staff member.

...

Anyone have a problem with that?

That's basically what they have at those two shops I mentioned in Johnson City. That's why I won't go there anymore. And I've bought a lot of things at those places before they posted.

I think having patrons with loaded guns is just part of the gun business. Seems to me this is another "blood in the streets, if" issue. It doesn't seem to be a problem, except for people who chase away business by posting anti-carry gun stuff for their store. I won't go to a place where I feel insulted.

Well, I think if they are CCW and it stays that way it should be ok. However if they are pulling it out and messing with it, that's another question.

I Think a sign saying "keep it in your pants:cool:" should sufice. I would really be insulted if I had to check my weapon at the door or let some "staff" member check if for me.

If you've got some type of "safe" spot in the store, where the guy could be escorted so he could unload would be ok.

I would also be insulted if i had to ask permission to carry my holstered weapon and would take my business elsewhere.

I think a sign stating all guns must be unloaded before entering the store or remain holstered would suffice.

I agree... Tell ya what Im going to do. I think Im just going to scrap off the 16 year old sign period and hope people will use some common sense. We'll see how it goes. Thats probably the best thing to do. I also have to scrap off the no smoking sign too, since its not relevant anymore.

Any other input or ideas would be appreciated.

That sounds good....BTW, when I shop for a holster, and I am in a gun shop....I just ask for the same gun I am carrying...mine stays holstered.

havent had any issues, and the store owners liked it.

just a thought.

I conducted a quick grammar repair on this one:

Good grief. I didn't know there was a required posting. :)

Can I still smoke on my front porch during a thunderstorm?

Pretty pityful isn't it? :(

I knew when I started seeing "No Smoking" signs in places where I already knew smoking wasn't allowed, there must have been some type of requirement.

As far as your porch....just don't enclose it...lol :drama:39-17-1804

I did notice that sign looked a llittle faded on the glass last time I was by the shop. I know a guy that does that type of paint/glass lettering if you ever decide you want to redo yours.

I'm not naming any names since I don't want to point out the policies of any particular shop, but rather get some opinions on the practice.

I'll name names and point out their policices.

RIVERGATE GUNS AND KNIVES has a NO LOADED GUNS sign on their door. I'll never step foot inside again. Not to mention their ridiculously high prices, but that's another thread.

I ride my motorcycle quite a bit this time of year, and I always carry with

me, a few times In have had to put my gun in my saddlebag before

going in a gunshop that had a NO LOADED GUNS. I did make sure I

could see the bike otherwise I just wouldn't go in.

Posting a gun shop is like posting a no open beverages sign at a bar!

Wrong!

Actually it would be like posting a no outside drinks sign at a bar :D

I have a great idiot story, that spans a number of idiots. I was in a pawn shop in tullahoma, and the customer next to me at the rack of guns was looking at a .50 caliber muzzle loader. He suddenly turned bleach white, and rushed over to the clerk. Someone had brought this gun in, whoever was working when he pawned or sold it looked it over, probably someone else put it on the rack, who knows how many customers looked at it, and it was STILL loaded, and ready to go. The worst part, the clerk didn't really seem suprised, like this was fairly common.

well had a guy come in this evening... he had a 22 rifle for sale, and before I could get it from him he swept the entire store while he was saying ... "It isnt loaded"... well I finally got it, checked it... and sure enough it was loaded to the gills.

Some people are just plain stupid!!!!

I buy guns from several pawn shops and we have gotten our share of loaded ones from them.... and they supposingly check them too.

First, I wouldn't patronize that shop and very politely let them know why. Might suggest a "Loaded Guns Must Remain In Holster" sign instead. But if I did go in, I'd unload the handgun and take it in with me. Might have a loaded magazine in my pocket.....

The same idiots who ND in gun shops, and the like, are the same ones who think they are an exception to the rule. Its the same argument that only sensible people will abide by no gun signs. Signs are only effective for those who have sense, those who don't......well, there is only one way to cure stupid.

Signs, especially at gun stores, are pointless. They only effect those who don't need the instruction.

When they start putting warning labels on fast food, do you really think those who aren't conscience of their weight are really going to take notice?

Maybe a better sign is,

"We reserve the right to refuse or shoot stupid!"
