The fun part is when someone brings in a gun to sell/trade/repair and they swear it's unloaded and it produces a live round when the action is worked.

WD Sporting Goods on Alcoa Hwy does not allow anyone to carry a loaded firearm concealed or open in their store.

Their store is also adjenct to a biker bar.........Don't know that I can fully blame them.

but we've also had AD's because some idiot customers were playing "show and tell" with their personal guns in my store. I have actually heard... "Its not loaded"... then BANG!

It's always loaded until I physically check it!!

When I visit any gun shop and have a holstered, loaded weapon on me...it's just that. Same as if I were in the mall, buying gas, whatever. It should stay concealed, I'm not there to "show it off", same as if I were anywhere else.

The only reasons I could think of bringing a firearm to a gun shop to be brought out in the open would be for smithing, comparison to a firearm I wanted to buy, or to have an accessory fitted. In those cases, yes, the firearm would be unloaded. Probably wouldn't even have a mag in it.

Buy this time, I'm preaching to the choir.

I know exactly the kind of people/patrons/gun owners this thread is about...

A daughter of local Benton LEO of some sort was one of my Mom's friends growing up. She said that her father was going to pay for her college from the bucks he got on weekend speed traps (which he pocketed).

You know the scam. Back when that was a main route long before Interstate, you'd have all these folks trying to get wherever back north from FL on weekend. Get stopped, and "well, we can hold your car and you can wait and see the judge on Monday, or...you could just pay fine in cash and go on your way"...

I refuse to go into a gun store unarmed, that's just plain stupid, "I'll sell you a gun but you can't carry in here" Yea right.

Unless it's a legal sign I ignore it, you will find most of the signs like those "no loaded guns" signs in gun stores are just idiot signs and they are not smart enough to read them.

Legends posted one of those signs, I went in and ask about it and was told "it's for the cowboys, not our regular customers" seems they had 1 customer come in open carrying a 1911, big shiny, pearl grips and all, pulling it out to test fit holsters, asking about this and that, the whole time waving it about. He was escorted out and told he was welcome back but his loaded gun was not.

I have been into a gun store that will not allow carry, said "good by, I won't be back" and never have.

The way I see it, and you gun store owners correct me if I'm wrong, if I am carrying in a holster (mostly covered) that is not the "loaded gun" you are talking about, you don't want some yahoo dropping a gun on your counter to 1. be worked on or, 2. to trade or, 3. to sell or, 4. to see what holster fits the gun the idiot shoud never have had in his grubby hands in the first place. Right?

Speed scams like this were very common all over US, seemingly more so in the south.

I got involved with a nasty one in Scottsville, KY when I was an erstwhile trucker, about 1972 or 73 maybe. Was a mover, delivering a load directly to home, 2am on a Sunday morning on a tiny road near town, gonna find house and park nearby somewhere and sleep a while and then deliver later in the day.

Long story, but got pulled over for "reckless driving" (at about 20mph, had to go down middle of road to keep mirrors from hitting trees on either side).

Long story, but Da Judge comes in at 5 am, on Sunday morning, in hunter's garb! to see what his gendarmes have brought in during the night Wound up having jail hospitality for a couple days till I could have fine money wired to me, as was traveling light on cash.

It's was pretty obvious that most (maybe none) of that fine wasn't going into the public coffers. Wouldn't take a check, of course.

I'd say there still is some of this going on in small areas, like where a single constable/sheriff operates, not really directly much accountable to anyone else.

It would have to be pretty big as a JPEG to hold up to printing at that size.

Needs to be about 1200 to 1500 pixels on a side to print at the size of the clipart, though. Otherwise will look pixelated (crummy).
