My Battle Rifle

Over 10 years ago I got 5 G1 Kits and over the years I have put them together and fixed them up nice. Well to make this short someone always wanted the one i had at the time and the money was good so I parted with it. This was my last kit so guess what I did? Nothing I just slapped it together and now I have a great rifle that I hope no one wants it is ugly but when a zombie is on your tail no one will be saying "That is one nice rifle will ya take $???? for it".

Good luck if you can find one the lowest I have seen on is about $300. I got 5 10 years ago at $90 each

This reminds of the FAL I was dying for back in my 20's. I told my father in law all about them every time we talked. Then on my birthday one year I was at his house and he says happy birthday and hands me a box of .308. I just looked at him puzzled and then he picks up this beautiful FN FAL and hands it to me.... I was blown away....

 

....then he said "LOOK WHAT I GOT! NOW YOU'VE GOT SOME AMMO AND CAN SHOOT IT SOME TIME!"

 

I nearly shot it... right then and there.... if you know what I mean ;D

 

Oddly enough, I never looked at the FAL again....

Chrome don't get ya home is what they always say about cars.  Fine finishes and fancy gimmicks don't cover your butt when the walkers come rollin in.  Ever see the rifles 3-gun competitors use.  A LOT of those look like they've been run over by a truck.

I do have to say popping out 20 7.62x51 as fast as you can is something everyone should do. (more than once)

And you would think my 12 year old would rather shoot his AR glad I got about 8000 rounds back when you could get it for $120 a thousand.

Nice battle rifle.  I've got a box-o-FAL sitting on my work bench.  It's been patiently waiting for me to put it together for too long.

A few questions for the OP, or anyone who knows really.

How hard is it to put the kits together? I'm wanting an FAL real bad and with the way pricing is on those this may be my best bet. Is the kit something you assemble with few specialty tools or is it way more complex than that?

If its easy to do I'd drop $300.-$400. on a kit in a minute.

Well especially then. :rofl: I have no idea how much a kit goes for, thought someone mentioned $300? I would still be willing to go $600 if the build is easy enough, I'm guessing recievers aren't too much? Idk, I should probably look all this up one of these days :rolleyes:

The kits aren't that hard to assemble assuming you have basic mechanical skills. You'll need a receiver wrench at the very least. A few other things can make it easier. The big thing is how they headspace, which is different from most other rifles. I paid about $350 for my kit, plus another $350 for the upper (which is the firearm in a FAL), plus a bit more for tools, 922r parts, mags, etc. I've got about a grand in it.

This.  FAL's are pretty much just wrenched/screwed together.  As mentioned you need a receiver wrench, head space gauges, and locking shoulder kit if memory serves.  Youtube can pretty much fill in the rest but they are really easy to put together.  Maybe one notch in difficulty up from an AR.  If you are building up a metric kit then try to find an Imbel receiver.  They are pricey($300-$500 range on gunbroker) but regularly praised as the best.  Failing that DSA probably has the next best option in receivers all things considered.

Head space you can use a 7.62x51 round just get a couple of match ammo and put a piece of masking tape on the end of one you now have go no-go. When I have all the parts I can  have it ready to shoot in a hour.
