Moving out of state then back again TN HCP question

I had a valid TN HCP when I moved to MIssouri last year and became a resident and received my HCP there.  My question is does my TN HCP automatically become invalid after I establish residency in Missouri?  I just recently moved back to my old address here in TN and established residency here again.  They used my old driver's license number as my new license that also matches my TN HCP as well per TN statue.    I kept my TN HCP just in case I did have to move back and it doesn't expire for another 3 years.  If it does make it invalid, does it go back valid after I establish residency or do I have to go through the whole process all over again?  Does the TN HCP ever go invalid even if you move and establish residency in another state?  I just like some clarifications if possible.  I cannot seem to get the HCP Dept. on the phone since it's always busy or no one ever answers.  Thank you!

Once you get a drivers license from another state your HCP is no longer valid. I confirmed this when I moved to Florida. Email Lisa Knight to see if you can get it reinstated. I'll try to find her email.

I did nearly the same and had to go through the TN process in it's entirety again. (just finished actually received my new TN HCP in the mail yesterday) Legally as my attorney explained it I gave up residency when I spent 45 days in OR. Upon returning to TN I could not exchange my OR permit for a TN permit(requirements differ) and my original TN permit had expired in the meantime. Now I have the TN part handled I'll go about getting the OR permit changed to a non-resident permit for when I visit. Keeping permits up in multiple states that do not share reciprocity sure adds an unnecessary layer of complexity to the whole mess. :down:

 

My attorney advised that I could have likely renewed my permit while out of state since I still owned property, registered vehicles, and owned a business here but I didn't need it at the time as TN recognizes OR's permit for "visitors".

Some states do issue &/or recognize non-resident HCP/LTCH/CCW, however unfortunately I do not believe TN recognizes or issues TN HCP to non-residents.

I believe FL permits non-residents & multiple states recognize/honor them, I can't recall off hand which though at the moment.

You can call to find out if they can/will reinstate without going through it all again since it didn't expire due to age.

I just got the final answer on this issue if anybody is interested for future reference.  Here is Ms. Lisa Knight's response to my inquiry:

 

"Mr. X, if you are now a resident of TN you may simply go into a driver’s license station, complete an application for a duplicate and pay the $5 fee as your current permit has not expired.  The driver’s license station will have to call our office in order for us to set your status from cancelled back to valid."

 

This is a huge relief for me.  This made my day!  :D
