But the charges have been dropped.

Yes, I meant to add that, but I was posting from my phone when it rang.

I don't know how many TGOers may find themselves in a similar situation, but thought I'd post it anyway.

I hate it when details are left out.  He failed to mention that he had surrendered his TN DL when he got his Delaware DL.  That made his CCW invalid because TN does not have a Non Resident CCW.

You don't have to have a TN DL to qualify as a TN resident. However, a TN resident must get a TN DL within 30 days of establishing residency, assuming he indeed wants to legally drive in TN.

But most states have a law against having more than one DL, like TN apparently does (it's a question on application or renewal I think).

Anyway, actual "dual residency" in the US seems to be a myth. Although the states have no problems with you paying all kinds of state taxes in the separate ones.

Whatever the details, it was a snafu. I'm glad the charges were dropped. I'm sure there was a gun hater in the mix somewhere.

Just last month when I moved up here, DMV told me I  had 21 days to get my cars registered. I was also told (Possibly incorrectly, but I dont know) that I would need to have a current TN drivers license with my current address on it. So I went and got my license changed over, while there I asked about Insurance requirements, was told that I didnt need to change it over right away, but if I didnt I was driving at my own risk. If I have an accident with Insurance in MS (I still had both houses and one vehicle still in MS) that under TN insurance laws, living in TN and having Insurance with a MS address the Insurance Company was not legally bound to cover me in the event of an accident. Went outside and called the Insurance company, true, but the lady on the phone said if I were involved in an accident I "Probably" wouldn't have a problem. So I asked, since I "probably" wouldnt have a problem, how long did I have to change the address. "Right now" was the answer, but if you want to wait a week (again) you "probably" wont have a problem.

When I moved to Texas I had to file a form to legally change residency. When I moved to MS from Texas I had to file a form to change it again. When I asked about that form here I was told "Your already a legal resident, as soon as you got that drivers license".

So the lady may have meant 21 business days, but just said "days". But I have lived in a lot of different states, this is the first state I have lived in that the second you signed for that drivers license you became a legal resident. Plus you may have 30 days, but you take a chance with the Insurance if you dont get your license, change residency and update your insurance ASAP. You can drive like you still live in the previous state and wait, but like I was told "Your doing so at your own risk" and the Insurance company verified that.
