Best deal on MRE's?

Recommended Posts

Need to stock up on some MRE's, can anyone point me in the direction of the best deals? I just need a few cases.

This is just for a power outage/severe weather or whatever comes about, so I don't want some massive food stores, just enough to last 2 people 2 weeks or so.

As far as best deals for MRE's id suggest ebay.  But if your just looking for food for a power outage and portability isnt as large of an issue i'd just suggest stocking up on some shelf stable foods and a camp stove.  Youd have much better tasting food than what comes in MRE cases.

I had always been curious on the Wise meals or other brands, wasn't sure on them... Sort of default to the real MRE's just because that's what we had in the Army.

So are the other brands similar as far as the calorie counts and expirations?  Taste isn't a big concern cause if we've resorted to these, there are much bigger issues afoot.

Yeah, the Packit Gourmet are generally great tasting, but they would probably expire on you, unless you just ate them for the heck of it, then bought more. A little too pricey to be doing that. Plus, most of the stuff does require at least hot water. And some actually requires some preparation. They are probably better suited for backpacking and camping.

Mres are expensive enough I just go to places like long life food and ready store and buy just the parts I want and like.

I have been eating Mountain House foods for around 30 years. Good stuff.

Beef Stroganoff is the best.

Of course I am odd. I like the taste of MREs too...

I've used MRE Depot several times in the past. They have a variety of intermediate to long term storage foods at competitive pricing.

Another option is actually Walmart online. I purchase Augason Farms products. It's free shipping for orders over $50.00. Walmart online also carries Grizzly Ridge camping foods and Mountain House. Just another option.

fwiw...I too like MRE's...but then I liked the C-Rats they used to issue us...

I've been looking at the Augason Farms stuff. Supposedly it's good tasting but has a LOT less sodium than the Wise brand and other similar brands.

I personally like the Augason Farms better than Wise foods. In particular I like their fruits. They taste great, are a decent price, and will certainly add some flavor and variety to LTS (long term storage) foods.

Even though sales tax is calculated into Walmart online, with the free shipping it is still a good value.

the past few MRE's I have got sucked. They did not have a desert or candy or the all important hot sauce. I don't know if the gubmint has got cheap or my military surplus guy is ripping me off.

In my opinion, the newer MRE's aren't any good at all! I like the old ones better.

Dave don't tell me you were one of the two people to ever exist that actually liked the beef frankfurters.

The beef frankfurters weren't bad. The tuna & noodles was what was really terrible. My favorite was the beefaroni like beef pasta.

Maybe they werent bad if they were recently made.  The only time i had beef frankfurters was in basic and im pretty sure that MRE had been on a shelf somewhere for a decade

5 fingers of death... yuck.

I actually dug the tuna & noodles. Wasn't bad when you put salt in there and mixed it. The chicken breast, "chunked and formed" was the best because you could eat it on the move and didn't need a "rock or something" to heat it up and make it bearable.
