Hornady suspending production on ammunition and components

As if things are not bad enough for us Hornady has decided to suspend production on a bunch of their products. They announced that 150 bullet types and loaded ammunition are being suspended for the remainder of the year. The list of bullets is 7 pages and the list of loaded ammunition is 3 pages.

This is posted on a website that will oust BS very quickly so I consider this as legit as it gets. I hope it isn't true for those who use Hornady products.

instead of typing it all out you could copy and paste.  If you cant do that just hit print screen and then save the file onto paint.  That way you can post the picture of it.  Would be much easier.

thats pretty much what i did but instead of print screen i used the select tool to copy them into paint,  the print screen was to much blank white space and would have made it even worse.   

 

 

From the way i read the memo, it appears that their plan is to focus their production for the time being on the products that they sell the most of, and prevent having to go back and forth setting up machines on their production line.  

 

Although it really sucks if you just must have an item on that list i think it will help speed the recovery of the ammunition and components market, as time that they previously spent changing out equipment and settings can now be spent manufacturing more.

I didn't see the memo you mentioned but i hope your right. Sure seems like some pretty popular items on the chopping block though. I hope this doesn't get out as something shady going on and cause another tailspin (that's if there's nothing shady going on. There i've covered all the bases).

Well I am glad I got into casting (pistol) but now I feel the need to start casting for everything.  I hope this powder coating of bullets works out so I can have full independence from the BS that seems to keep occurring in the firearms industry.  Time to search for more molds....and my blackout build is almost done ....grrrr :down:

Even some of the Critical Defense stuff is suspended. I use the 125gr XTP .38 that is suspended. Crap I only have a little bit left too as it's always been available during this stupidity.

I wonder if they have changed the list, again.  The list I found on Hornady's site - labeled as the 'updated 2013 production list' - looks a little different than the one at the link you posted.  I didn't compare the lists for content, though - just the formatting looks a little different.

I have 2-300 bullets at home I got a good deal on I was gonna load up as practice rounds(only carry factory loads). I guess I better hold off and see what happens.

I doubt this is some kind of anything.  Hornady doesn't know how long the current stupidity is going to last, so they aren't willing or able to add additional equipment (assuming they run 3 shifts x 7 days, which most companies are doing right now).  In order to attempt to meet the demand for their most popular products, they will limit the amount of time their machines are down due to changeovers, keeping their equipment up and running as much as possible.  This maximizes their productivity, which, again - if they're unable or unwilling to expand - is the only capability-enhancing move they can make.

 

It looks like a good business decision to me in that they can better meet demand for their top-line items without investing capital in machinery or additional workers that may or may not be needed X years from now.  Buying specialized industrial machinery of the sort they use requires a very rosy forecast for 5 years or so at a minimum, though of course that varies with the application.
