Pastor throws hissy fit

I have only listened to news clips, but am convinced this congregation has had a clarion call and urgently needs to fall on their knees, pray, and cry out for healing, and not get up off of their knees until it happens.

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land."

Gee Caster, I dunno why you love God but hate organized religion.

Off kilter pastors are more common than one might think. And the sheep of their flock are subject to their influence. Some of us might look down on congregation members for being so easily led but the truth is, the sway of ones conscience is powerful and if a believer thinks .......well you see where I'm going with this.

This guy has obviously never grown up and is still acting like a child. Well, Foolishness dwells in the heart of a child but the rod of correction will drive it far from him. Sounds to me like a divine mandate to whoop this guys behind. Trip to the woodshed people!

I agree with you Caster but it's still hard to believe someone didn't just deck this guy or at least call him out on it. There are few people I would allow to get in my face like that and my preacher isn't one of them.

I can't imagine this guy just losing it like this one day though. I'm sure he has been preaching/acting like this before.

Interesting. I see a man that's fed up with the pettyness that's rampant in his obviously fairly well funded church. Calling people out by name is a bit over the top, but I've seen the pastor of my church come close to that.

Our pastor is a missionary at heart. He's happiest preaching in the jungle and is rejuvenated by the zeal shown by those who've never heard the gospel. His sermons in the weeks following a trip to Africa or South America are always quite empassioned to say the least.

All I can figure is that there must be a back story here that I don't know about. Churches form committees that search hard for just the right preacher for their congregation, especially a church that appears to be as well-funded as this one is. Regardless of whether I like his style, maybe the congregation had gotten lost in the "process" and he was trying to stir them up.

I quit going to church because of all the pomp and circumstance. The pageantry of it all got to be too much. Then, there's the business side of things. Anyone who's overheard the elders talk about ways to increase tithes and boost collection plates could easily get fed up with the business side of religion too. Churches don't build themselves and programs cost money.

Maybe he's seeing this and is fed up? Seems a bit over the top and bullying to me, but it may actually be warranted, who knows?

At least we know he loves young Cox.

In the immortal words of Maude Findlay: "God'll getcha for that one."

funny as hell, though

I think that most pastors only toy with the idea of what he's doing and most will never do it!

Exactly. At least he's got the cojones to say what's on his mind. A bit too blunt perhaps, but I'm sure no one misunderstood. And I'll bet he's not wrong.

I love God, and I sure never shyed away from a good convicting sermon.  But this I garuntee, if that pastor got in my face and called me out, he'd catch a certified eye jammie in short order.  Convicting people of their sins and emabarrasing them are two sepearte issues.

I don't disagree. You who are without sin cast the first stone. Sometimes a little public embarrassment is a good thing. But that's certainly not a source I'd have expected.
