I bought four or five a few weeks ago; there weren't inexpensive but not really any more expensive than they have been (especially for FDE)...I probably should buy a few more though. ;)

That may be a perfectly workable solution and if the zombie hordes ever attack I may want to try this but other than that I I just don't think I want to take an FN-FAL magazine that I've worked over with a Dremel tool and then stick it in a $3,000+ rifle just to save a few bucks on the cost of magazines. ;)

Couldn't agree with you more lol! Sometimes you gotta pay to play. Now fellers, rotate your magazines weekly to keep those springs I check!

What's the problem if you cut and filed it to spec? All gunsmithing is machining and as long as you comprehend basic math and have a micrometer it's easy. Why spend $160-200 on 4 mags when that could be spent on ammo. I'm normally a gear whore but some of us can't afford all the niche stuff to go along with the platform, just the platform itself, lol. That's why I have a BCM upper with no lower, haha.

I don't have a problem with you doing or anybody else doing it so long as it's their rifle they are messing with but I'm not going to do it with my 17s unless TEOTWAWKI has happened and I can't order any more factory mags. ;)

Very interesting, looks like a well made product. Starting price of $420 though...

Think of the savings though from the over priced FN mags! I should know, I have six FNX-9 mags, lol.

Sgt Stryker on Fnforum.net is making a similar receiver out of polymer.  I thought about trying one of these or his, but I have never really had much trouble finding mags for mine.  I have 8 mags and haven't paid more than $45 for any of them.  If I had another semi-auto 308 that used PMAGS, then I would be temped to go that route for commonality's sake.  But I don't think cost savings is much of an incentive since PMAGS in 30 cal are still around $20.  I would have to buy a lot of PMAGS to break even on spending the $400 for the lower.

But again, if you had an AR-10 style rifle too, then maybe commonality would be nice.

If I had known about this before I had bought a half dozen of the FN mags I would have considered it since my Sig 716 takes the SR25 mags but I don't think it would be worth it at this point.

Surprisingly the FN mags are not hard to find at all right now and the price seems to have come down on them. I paid $36.99 with my dealer discount at Brownells for mine and got $5 shipping.
