I figure since this is a TN Forum and the 4th of July this would be appropriate to post.

I have a lot of Revolutionary War ancestors. Wilchers (Grandfather's), Bazemores (Grandfather's), Rincaca (Grandfather's), Jarriel's (Grandfather's).

All of the WIlchers, about 15 of them served as Privates up to Company Command under the same officer, Colonel Granberry Lee in the Georgia Militia and were part of the Continental Line. They fought in South Carolina and Georgia. After the war most of them moved from North Carolina down to Georgia where they received land in the Land Lotteries and Land Grants except one.

Thomas WIlcher (my 4th great Uncle) stayed in North Carolina. In 1796 when TN became a State he  found himself no longer living in North Carolina, but TN. (He lived in the North Carolina Military District of what became part of north Middle TN.). He was given quite a chunk of land in a Land Grant.

When Warren County was formed in 1807 one of the first things done was to appoint 12 Justices of the Peace, he was one of them. Later in 1809 he was instrumental in establishing the County seat McMinville.

The land he was given was situated between what is now Fork River (Barren Fork) and I think the road name is Liberty Road. Thomas and his family are buried in Liberty Cemetery there. He also has a brother buried there, my cousin in Georgia told me the grave inst marked but his name was John Wilcher, also a Revolutionary war veteran. Have also been told the name has morphed several times and that if I ever run into Wilchers, Wilchars, Wiltshirs in Warren County to say hello to our long distance cousins. We are still Wilchers, have been in America since 1645 and our family cemeteries in Burk County, NC (established 1699) and Glaskcock County, GA are still well taken care of and family members still get buried in the area's.

From what I am told a part of Thomas's house is still standing and the last resident was some Doctor.

So if your name is Wilcher, Wiltshir, Wilchar or some derivative and you or your family are from Warren County, "Hello long distant cousins", we may be related through our Revolutionary War Ancestors who fought as soldiers of "The Continental Line".
