Sounds pretty much like a "That's our policy, shop somewhere else" kind of letter.

Well, in that case, I am happy to oblige.

I did realize the sign is worded incorrectly, and I did go in the store and look around. I just didn't want to tip my hand in the letter that the sign was wrong. :D

Oh, I'm not suggesting that you should let them know the sign's not binding- I was more suggesting this: Wording the email in such a way as to say that I was "unable" to enter the store doesn't send the message I want to send. Rather, I want them to know that by posting a sign like that, they are telling me that they don't want my business, and that if they're that casual about alienating me, that I will happily oblige them, take my money elsewhere, and be sure to let all my nutty armed friends know as well.

In short, I'd rather tell them that I made a conscious decision than imply that I had no choice but to go elsewhere. Maybe it's just semantics, but to me implying the choice is a slightly higher level of "go **** yourself".

Perhaps, based upon the boilerplate response you got, it's time to turn the TGO firehose of email upon them.
