CCW in Gulf Shores

Recommended Posts

Going to head to Gulf Shores and wanted to see if there is anything to know about carrying there or anywhere else in Alabama.  I looked over handgunlaw.us and didn't see anything out of the ordinary but wanted to see if anyone knew anything I didn't.

Thanks,

I have carried there in the past with no issues.  Just keep in mind if you venture over into Florida that they have a 100% concealment requirement.

Yep what he said. Based on what I read on the law, in AL "no gun" signs do not carry the force of law. Take that for what you will as the owners intentions are pretty clear if they post. With that said I didn't see any postings anywhere I went. Just conceal and you have nothing to worry about. Have fun!

I lived in GS back in about 03-06. Not sure about CCW but GS and Orange Beach aren't very friendly to OC. (I prefer unlicensed carry even with what many consider the downsides to OC) But Foley is ok with it. In GS the police finally learned who I was and stopped stopping me, instead just driving by when they would get calls. Had friends that would CCW and never had any problems as long as they weren't printing, but god help you if you print and someone calls in on you. I witnessed several "felony stops" with this situation.

Bottom line: Just remember this is a "rich white community".

:-\ Huh? I thought it was the redneck Riviera.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, and find the people there to be very friendly. I don't recall ever seeing many LEOs, and certainly haven't been harassed by any of them about carrying, or any other issue for that matter.

As JAB stated, in Florida, concealed means concealed!

I find Alabama to be at least as carry friendly, if not more so, than Tennessee.

If you happen to be going through MS, MS also has a 100% concealed law. The new law (changes to definition of concealed and allowing OC) was supposed to go into effect July 1st but a Hinds County (Where I used to live) Judge put an injunction on allowing the law to go into effect. Police claimed they didn't have time to "Get ready".New hearing for July 8th. So if passing through, concealed means 100% concealed.

Oh it is for the most part. But it is still a beach town with million dollar + houses.

People there are very friendly for the most part but you still end up with a few anti gun people as with just about any town. GS does have a small PD but very active in the community. I was never really "harassed", just stopped there more than Foley and further north, for open carry, simple meet and greets until they got to know me and then when they got calls they wouldn't even stop when they saw it was me. A wave was what I got most of the time. However, I did have friend that CCed most of the time never had any issues but occasionally they would be printing or it may flash and people call on that. In most printing situations it would start as a meet and greet followed by a permit check. In flashing situations though it was a bit more intense. I only witnessed 2 felony type stops and that was probably because it wasn't 100% concealed, using unbuttoned over shirts to conceal it.

I can't speak to FL as the one time I went to Pcola in those years I was going to be going onto a military base for a car show and just didn't carry.

Alabama as a whole is GREAT for OC. After I moved to north AL I was NEVER stopped for OC. As I said in my first post, I am an unlicensed carry supporter and in AL OC does not require a licence so I never got a permit and therefor can't profess to any personal experience with CC.

I guess if I rephrased my bottom line it would be: Just make sure you are 100% CC, it is better to avoid the hassle because the local PD will not hesitate to investigate MWG calls.
