We had a meeting thursday at the plant I work for, several of us were told as of Oct. 6th they were cutting 22 salaried jobs, ( I am salaried), and 110 hourly jobs. Just one more casualty of the economy.

Yall keep me and my family in your prayers, I will be looking for employment starting Monday.

If the wife didn't have the pretty good job she has I would be looking for a job in East Tenn.!!

They've always got plenty of jobs listed at the Career Center I go to. Not always great paying jobs, but it's better than nothing.

I am truly, truly sorry for your job loss.

Remember, this says nothing about you as a person; it says everything about corporate greed.

If you cannot find a job in time, take anything you can get from a temp agency until you can find what you want.

Best of everything for you . . .

Thanks eveyone for the kind words, like was said it is a corporate thing, they pretty much spelled it out for us in the meeting, said they were trying to make the company more profitable. I can understand that, it is just hard to figure how "they" decided who to let go and who to keep. I have been there 24 years and always done everything asked of me, but they kept some who IMO are less desirable than I, go figure.

Don't do what I did.... after 14.5 years I was let go... took a 6 month pitty party, shooting, drinking, motorcycling and just generally screwing around. Then I got busy and spend another year trying to get a real job (during that time, sold cars, guns, Trucks, did repo work)

The best advice I can give you is be pro-active and actively seek new employment. Even if it isn't what you want or what your field is, take it and keep looking. In this way, after my brainfart had stopped, I was able to get an even better job than I had lost, in a most wonderful place called Tennessee...

I am pretty sure I know who you work for, I hate to hear that for you and hate to hear that for my old hometown. I don't have the connections I once had in Dburg, been gone for 14 years. I wish I did. Good luck and keep us posted.

The best time to start looking for a new job is right now while you've still got one. Go start hunting on monster/dice/careerbuilder now. Or work through a local temp agency to find something.

Good luck to you in your search!

Best wishes for your new career my friend. Sorry to hear about the change, but I am sure you will find something you enjoy more and hopefully stresses you less :-D Being a LEO is a great hedge against the economy...very very very rarely do you hear about the Police Force laying off.

Thank you comrade. :P

I agree with the first part. Losing a job die to downsizing is just part of the deal these days. The reason for the downsizing probably has more to do with corporate survival than greed these days. Even if a company is still making money, the funding dries up if it can't keep the profit margins up.

But it really sucks when you are the one being cut. As has been said, start job hunting NOW! At least you have a couple more months of paychecks. Just hang in there and make the job hunt the primary priority.

Well I went to the local PD and sheriffs dept. today and put in my applications with each. I also talked to a very nice lady at our local employment office and put in my application with one temp. service. I was told of one place here in town that will be hiring before long and they hire thru the temp agency I went to today. I have a few more prospects that I will check on next monday. I am still working for now and I work third shift so Monday is the best day for me to go job hunting.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words of encouragement!
