i hope you mean 3" not 3'

no way is a full choke shotgun going to spread to 3' in 1foot or less(point blank range)

Actually, it's closer to 50", but, I try not to confuse people too much.

Point blank range is maximum range at which one can hold on target and hit it. Much farther than touching distance for any firearm.

That's maximum point blank range or MPBR. Point blank range is historically the distance at which a cannonball falls below the plane of the barrel. It's also slang for 1".

i always heard point blank was 7-9", that was referring to a handgun though. figured it was the same for long guns, although i cant say i have heard of pointblank range being referred to when talking long guns.

anyways i will stick with 00 buck and slugs

#00 Buck or #0 Buck. The birdshot (#4-#8) while making a devistating looking wound will not get the penetration needed to disrupt the cardio-vasculer system which is what is needed to drive your threat into unconsciousness as quickly as possible by causing massive blood loss and thereby depriving the brain of oxygen. Most of your shooting in a building or around your home will take place at 12 feet or less and therefore it will be easy to hold a pattern inside a standard human torso. With #00 that will be a pattern the size of a golf ball at 4-5 feet out to 12 feet with a pattern a bit larger than a softball depending upon your shotgun and your brand of ammunition.
