Was offered a possible promotion in Dickson... Please inform me about the area, good places to live, etc... Also, if I accept I will probably be looking for a house to rent.

Fast growing, busy i.e. getting too crowded for my tastes but certainly better than closer to Nashville IMHO. Cost of living probably lower and certainly closer to less populated areas like Hickman and Houston Co.

I live south of Dickson near Bon Aqua. Come to think of it, too crowded out here as well!

Dickson is a nice town, I have family there. There are whispers and hints of a drug problem, because of the proximity to I-40, but I haven't seen it. The rural areas are picturesque, and most of the natives are friendly. Its home to the first Super Wal-Mart in the country. There is a golf course and liquor by the drink, so you can go to Applebee's and have a Jack and Coke. The schools are decent.

Super Wal-Mart and liquor, how can you go wrong?

That pretty much sums it up! Their walmart reminds me of my small hometown in KY with a splash of Memphis... I'm partial to Fairview, it's more of a country town and all of our neighbors around here are respectful and they take care of each other.. Oh and someone in the area has a number of automatic weapons, it's nice to hear them firing, and I'm guessing they got lots of $ behind it as they're shooting all the time.

... or that could be the combination of the Wal-Mart clientele and a little too much of that likker...

There are some VERY good people out that way.  There's also some of the dumbest white trash east of the Mississippi river.

What dickson really needs is a gun store.  I cannot believe they don't have much of anything with all them rednecks!  You got the Dickson Sportsmans store.  It's fair ....at best.  They're high priced.  All the old pawn shops are gone.

I just drove out to Dickson and I like it, it reminds me a little of Blountville... The problem I'm having is finding a place to live... There are very few places, but none of them seem to be in decent areas or have what I'm looking for.

I have family there, ain't been in a coons age.

Don't know much more than that. Those I do know are honest and hard working.

As for the drug problem, that is any rural area anymore.

Try just west of Dickson. McEwen ain't bad. The area between the two towns ain't bad at all.
Burns is decent.
The Pond area is pretty nice. It's out Yellow Ceek road.

Coworker lives in Dickson and says its a huge democrat stronghold. Don't know personally but he has grown up in that area so I take his word for it.

There is WAAAAAY too much camo, too many head ache racks, bone collector stickers in the back window, and rebel flags in Dickson for it to be a democrat stronghold.

Yea i've bought a few things at the Sportsman Store, they could also have more of a choice in ammo. Is BB&Js still around in Dickson? They used to be one of the big ammo dealer at the Goodman shows.

I would rather be east of Dickson since I will need to drive into Nashville at least once a week and my fiancé works in Brentwood.

I've seen several nice places available in the Burns area lately. Probably a good compromise between Dickson and Nashville.

Burns and Fairview are going to be your best "in between" spots. Fairview puts you in Williamson Co. and a little closer to Brentwood but 10-15 minutes further from Dickson.

Where are you seeing this? We are scouring the Internet and have found very little.

You'll like it here. It's not really a Democrat stronghold. He actually has a decent challenger this time. You'll like it here. Three good golf courses if you're into golf. Yes...Wal-Mart and liquor. There is some REALLY fantastic b-b-q here. There are some really good local restaurants. We have an airsoft arena. Caster is right we NEED a gun store. our wal-mart is out of ammo, too, by the way. Our schools are good. You'll like it here. I'll help you out where I can. Just ask.

Burns is a nice area and handy for 40 and Montgomery Bell. Depends what you're looking for really.

Local government is pretty crappy but the town itself is OK to live in.

Ah, yeah. Quite a drug problem if you scratch the surface. The Highland Motel is a particularly notorious place and a mobile meth lab caught fire in the parking lot of the local hospital last year. That said, it's not like it's a big problem but it's definitely there.

Consider Fairview also. Incredibly handy for 840. A little bit of a commute to Dickson but only about 20 minutes depending where work is. Prices are likely to skyrocket there since they joined up 840 to Franklin earlier this year.
