PRI or Tom Givens

Recommended Posts

PRI has Handgun II in Franklin on Sept 14-15 and Tom Givens is going to be teaching a Handgun course that same weekend in Camden, TN. Was going to sign up for PRI but then found out about the Tom Givens course. Would like input from people that have taken a course from either, but especially from people that have been to both. thanks

I haven't trained with PRI. But I've taken a few classes from Tom, and attended several of the Tactical Conferences at Rangemaster.

Tom is Top Tier, knows his stuff and how to teach it, and is a Great Guy all around. You can't go wrong with Tom.

there must be a "backstory" with the 3" 1911 tnhawk.

My guess is they havent worked well in his courses. Rob Pincus says the same thing, compact 1911s dont work well through a multi-day course.
There is a short video on youtube where Pincus talks about 1911 failures in his classes.

Good point my friend.

Please give us some feedback, an AAR if you will, on the course you choose.  TIA.

Not to kick anyone's pet goldfish, but the truth of the matter is that the most reliable 1911s are the full size ones.

Most of the chopped down ones that I have seen have some kind of issues . Now whether that was gun related, magazine related, or whether it was shooter induced, I do not know. Generally the people shooting these guns do not really want to discuss WHY their gun is not working, they are just angry that they spent that much money on the gun and it is not working.

I'm not saying ALL shortened 1911s are problematic. I'm saying that I see far more problems from compact 1911s than I see from full size ones.
