Thug kidnaps kid in store, turns into a hostage situation, puts knife to the kid, story builds cop is a few feet away, moves forward and puts a bullet in his brain.

Shows everything up to, but not the actual shot.  The CCTV video is good because it has a play by play from a policeman as to what was going on.

With concealed carry permits somewhere between five and ten percent of the population (and remember that the concealed carry permit might be Dad's protecting Mom and the kids) and with other legitimate gun ownership by business owners and home owners, there's a whole lot of armed people who can make burglary and robbery a very dangerous occupation. When burglary & robbery is a low-risk crime of opportunity, there are a lot of them. When burglary & robbery becomes a high risk crime, fewer criminals will burglarize and rob. Partly because a lot of them will be dead or at least seriously wounded.

I don't really think this one falls under a "thug down" designation. The offender in this case a man suffering from mental illness, who obviously had a psychotic break that endangered others and ended his life. While I do not mourn his death, I will not celebrate it either.

I have to respectfully, fully disagree.  If a person has the mental capacity to plan an attack like this, then by damned they have the mental capacity to deal with the consequences.

Great, now there is going to be a bunch of "Justice for Sammie" crap to deal with.

And the required why couldn't they just shoot him in the leg or sumthang!

I'm not saying that the consequences were not deserved or that it should have been handled any differently, only that unlike Thuggy McThuggerson who gets ventilated trying to rob someone, this isn't a happy ending. It is just a tragic event for all involved.

The child was unharmed and no innocent bystanders or law enforcement was harmed, that's pretty much the goal of every hostage situation.

I do however agree that a shooting is never a happy ending, because the people involved now unfairly been put in a situation to address the crime.

I don't know the details leading up this event, but from what I saw/heard in the video, I'd have to agree.

This isn't your typical thug getting popped while committing a crime. This guy was messed up in the head and needed help. I don't see any way around how it ended though.

I have to disagree with that sentiment. Criminally insane individuals are also thuggish and may be far more dangerous than a common thug. Look at any serial killer as an example.

You may think the insane have no control over their actions and that is sometimes true. Often though, those that have been diagnosed with a mental illness are prescribed medication to at least alleviate their symptoms. Choosing to not take that medication, when prescribed, is their way to control their actions. This guy has been diagnosed and has even been imprisoned which makes me believe he had other options he chose not to take.

The liberal side might miss that vote in 2016

I don't know any background of this particular psycho but, a common theme is "they couldn't, were denied or didn't get mental health services or their medications".

Mental health doctors and specialists along with psychological medications are extremely expensive. Who do you believe should pay to treat the diseased gene pool, the government? But the government earns no money? As a society and an individual, is it worth it for you to get up and go to work daily to support a large and ever growing segment of our population make a living off of you and that gets the same services, cell phones, food, medical care, pampers, formula, housing, etc. for free you toil for? Yes Virginia, there is a free lunch.

I don't have a solution other to revert back to the tried and true. Lobotomies, chemical castration, insane asylum's, etc. Regardless, mental incapacitation or defect is no excuse and should be no reason for special circumstances. The innocent victims suffer just the same. These mental defects are passing their genes like rabbits to the next generations.
