Seattle’s $31,306 gun buyback cost the city $23,223 in LEO overtime

I wonder what Murfreesboro's gun buy pack was going to cost the city or county? or if they even consider it before holding such an event?

 

Seattle’s Jan. 26 buyback ultimately saw about 716 guns exchanged for $68,000 in gift cards bought with donated funds. The event cost the city $31,306, according to city figures. Most of that money – $23,223 – went to pay police officers working overtime to staff the event.

Wouldn't it be better to hold a buyback program where gun owners could sell their unwanted weapons to responsible HCP licensees?

 

If people are responsible enough to turn in their unwanted weapons, they should be responsible enough to check for a TN HCP permit at a big, open to all, swap meet.

 

Just hold it in a big parking lot... like the old 1st Saturday farmers' swap meets we used to have when I was a kid.

Some group would have to organize an event like that.  The police aren't going to set it up.

 

However if they take part in the buy back, seems it would only be fair on an event like you suggest they would be willing to run serial numbers no questions ask of the person bringing it it before a transaction would be made.

Then if a stolen gun turned up, they take it to return to the rightful owner.
