Abandoned Fawn

Ran across this poor fawn this morning while walking my dog this morning.  Was gone later in the day.  Hoping it's mother recovered it.

Momma was most likely standing int he "woodline" watching her baby. After you left she recovered her fawn and fed it. Thank you for not touching it or removing it from the wild!

Nice looking dog by the way. What breed?

That's pretty cool, by next season that fawn will be world wise enough that you'd never get that close without it bolting. Your poochie seems pretty intent on recusing it.

Thank you for being smart enough not to upset nature. I am sure mom was closer than you were aware and took control after you left.

This last fall, I was about 6 feet away from my buddy, who got crotch-sniffed (literally) by a very small / ~30+ lb doe (no spots)

He had said - "Bert, show me how to find deer!" , so I did.

He was absolutely still for the ~30 second encounter.  The deer did not spook until he cracked up and smiled at it.

That's cute!

A couple of years ago we had a tiny fawn laying down on the side of the country road and would not move. I didn't know if it was abandoned / hurt and was a little tempted to offer it water / cows milk but didn't, and let it be.

My understanding is it's best not to even approach it too close and / or leave human scent near it or the doe may abandon it. Went back to the front of the house where I had seen it a few hours later and it was gone. Might have needed a rest to regain its strength.

BTW. Seen an itty bitty tiny fawn on my road a week ago. They're so cute!

Sad thing about tiny fawns, are alot of them like to lay down in hay fields to hide while momma feeds. Along comes a farmer bush hogging and the fawn stays put like momma taught it to, and it gets killed. Nothing you can do about it.

We had this happen. Very sad.
