How Hot is Too Hot

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been discussed but I cannot find the subject by searching.

I cannot carry at work and am starting to think about leaving my gun in my car. (Which now makes me worry about car theft, but that's another subject.) As you know, at this time of year, the temp can get well over 100 in a closed car during the day. So my question is how hot is too hot for my ammo?

But can you leave your gun in your car per company policy while on their property

I have to leave my gun in my car while working as well, so I looked into it.

Bullets will "pop off" in a hot car. If the car is on fire! It has to get into 100's of degrees (like over 500) before there's a danger of the bullet going off. Most you have to worry about is powder degrading. Just shoot off the ammo and replace it every few months. But that shouldn't be a problem, eh?

Be careful. One of my former employers was the state of TN... after taking issue with CCW they posted signs appropriately on site.

And then forced the contracting agency to require random car searches in accordance with HR no-firearm tolerance policies. They never posted the property as being no carry, just the building. Didn't stop them from sacking a few people over it all though.

Long story short.. just because your right, and the letter of the law agrees with you doesn't mean HR won't can you and make you go through the courts for validation.

So.. just keep it well hidden.
