Reason to carry 24-7 number 10

Was trying to avoid traffic northbound on I-65 today and use the Ellington (lately as I often do). After leaving downtown, came to the stop where you turn left to go towards Ellington. Had both my boys in the car and while stopped at the light, one says, Dad what is that guy doing?

One guy gets out of the car flips off another while cursing. Guy 2 get's out of the other car at the light and within a split second is beating the living crap out of the other guy. I'm not talking about a few punches. I'm talking he would have killed him or close at the rate he was going. It appeared to me the amount of rage the guy had he was whacked out on something or just nuts but I've seen a lot of fights and this was totally insane.

I was the 1st through the light and stopped my car in the middle of the intersection and opened my window, dialed 911 and screamed to the guy, get the ---- off him, I called 911 and the cops are on the way. He got up and into his car. I don't carry every day and in light of this, probably will start. Had I been, I'd certainly felt a whole lot better with kids in the car. However, would have handled it same way. Makes you think when/if someone like this attempts to get into the car.

Guy number 1's first mistake was getting out of his car with an unknown entity. Guy 2 was nuts. As I have always been told, a car is your best weapon. Saw that a few years ago at a buddy's when I was visiting.

Lot's of lessons for the kids seeing this as we discussed on the way home. They never seen anything remotely like this and were pretty freaked out. I tried to explain how quickly things escalate, especially when people are compromised w/ drugs etc.

Holy crap! I work right down the street from there, when was this?

This pretty much seals it, I'm calling Nashville Armory and getting the damn permit.

I'm curious what the 911 person told you. Would they typically respond to an event like this and did you stay on the phone the whole time?

I fail to see how guy number two was nuts.

Guy number one seemed to have bitten off more than he could chew.

Happens sometimes when you think you are a bad ass.

Now, had you insinuated that guy number two was wrong for getting out of his car, I would agree, he should have been the one calling the cops.

I have been guy number two a time or two.

My brother got slapped around pretty good on highway 153 in chattanooga several years ago.  Words, then pull over.  Moral of this story: ...Dont have words--dont pull over...

Your best defensive position is stay in the vehicle. Drive to a police station if someone decides to follow you.( road rage). It isn't worth it to stop and have a few words with someone if he/she feels you are driving like a maniac. Justy looking at someone wrong can instigate some people into wanting a fight.

Luckily for me, I have never been in a situation where someone tried to get me to pull over and have words out. I carry every day and will keep oncarrying until i am either not able to or dead.

Guy number 1 did get out of his car first. Guy number 2 should have just drove off but because he didn't, for whatever reason, he is not the one in the wrong. The guy who got out first and was aggressive is the one who is.

If some bat crap crazy guy gets out of his car and is coming towards me off I will try to drive off. If I can't then I have to prevent him from harming me and the best way to end a fight is with overwhelming amount of force. That is what this sounds like, guy 1 was being aggressive towards guy 2 and guy 2 put an end to it very quickly.
