Is it legal to carry a loaded long gun in public in TN - with or without an HCP? I looked this up once, but now I can't find it and I forget!... :ugh:

No loaded long gun for general public carry in TN, permit or not.  (note: any ammo on your person for it, it's loaded)

Loaded long gun in vehicle okay with permit, but no round in chamber even then.

Nope, you might scare someone who's afraid of firearms or commit a criminal act or something, so an individual's Constitutional Right "to bear arms" has been voided.

If you want to legally carry a gun around you have to first get the State's permission & then pay a hefty fine before you can do so.

What OS said.

The basis for it is TCA 39-17-1307 which says no carrying of firearms with the intent to go armed (amongst other things). Other 39-17-13xx statutes make exceptions for that (like lawful hunting, HCP, at your own home/business, LEOs, etc.).
