my first attempt at brass pinned handles

The pins look great! The handle, though, looks a little blocky, 2x4ish. You may want to round it out, or at least the edges. Maybe try for an egg shaped cross-section, with the fat part of the egg at the spine.

Otherwise, great looking knife! Fantastic work!

my wife says the same anout my handles. Too plain! I tend to over simplify things. I'll try something different next time

What are you using for pins brother?

I got a brass rod at lowes that seems to work pretty well. The had 11/64s and 1/8s. This one was 11/64s

Looks good!!  What did ya glue the scales on (...and the pins...) with; or  did ya just upset 'em with a hammer and punch?  I'm gettin ready to do some myself.  I've got some cocobolo scales commin and i may glue them in instead of using screws.

Thanks for sharing.  Keep up the good work!

Do pins/screws and epoxy both, that way you have a mechanical fastener and an adhesive one. The best of both worlds. Less likely for either one to give way.

Thanks Broomhead.  Is there a specific epoxy ya like?

I get my epoxy at ace hardware. It's their brand. It always holds well.

Get the slowest setting stuff you can find, it will last the longest when set and be the least brittle. Let it sit for a minimum of 24 hours. Leave the leftovers sitting out beside your knife so you'll know if it has set up in 24hrs. Clamp it with just enough pressure to hold everything in place, you don't want to squeeze all of the epoxy out of the joint.

I get some stuff from Autozone, can't remember the name, but it is already tinted black and has an hour cure time, IIRC.
