Snowden to Charged with Espionage

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

CBS News is reporting the the DOJ is going to charge Edward Snowden with Espionage among other charges.  They have asked the authorities in Hong Kong to detain him for extradition.  I hope he mans up and voluntarily comes in.  I'd love to see this go to trial, so that these nefarious secret Government Programs will be further exposed!

if it goes to court, they'll keep everything hush hush... so don't expect too much to come out.

is he the one who spilled his secret in the back of a plane?

My bad, thanks for the tip!  I fixed it.  :)

They might keep it hush-hush in the courtroom, but he will undoubtedly say his motive was to prove how unconstitutional and intrusive these programs are. and rightly try to put these programs on trial.   And the media will be all over this.  No way they are going to let a good scandal die, now that the Obama Administration has become their enemy.  The Government is not going to be able to sweep this under the rug!

Even if he turns himself in I doubt he would survive to go to trial. I would expect him to "hang" himself in his cell, or to be shived in the shower. He is a threat and the government can't allow him to go on trial in an open court

Looks like Pelosi got booed defending the charges.

Well, Hong Kong ignored the extradition request, let him leave country, and he's apparently on plane to Russia right now.

Final destination opined to be Iceland, Cuba, or Ecuador, if he can get there without being nabbed at a stop somewhere on the way by a US friendly country.

The Icelandic connection may involve Assange/Wikileaks to some extent, seems to be traveling with a Wikileak lawyer right now.

An opinion I support is that he may have broke a law against revealing information but he was following the "supreme rule of the law", the Constitution.  No wonder people are beginning to express a fear of our government--Bengazi, IRS, etc.

We can only hope there is an in fight emergency between Russia and Cuba forcing them to land on U.S. soil. Then we can nab his traitorous ass.

Before I get flamed, I don't like what our government is doing either, but you don't give our secrets to another nation. Edited by dralarms

Welp, whistle-blowers aren't traitors & traitors aren't whistle-blowers.

Had the NSA been spying on the Chinese or Soviet militaries (real tangible threats) like they are supposed to be doing, instead of spying on the American people than yea his disclosing of that information would had been treason.

However, since the information on the Prism program he disclosed was that of the NSA monitoring & collecting data on every single American citizen, without warrants & without our consent or knowledge, in violation of the 4th Amendment, well that makes him more of a "whistle-blower" than a "traitor" IMHO.

The Constitution wasn't written in some super-secret code that only folks wearing black robes or shiney stamped metal badges can understand, the American people are starting to wake up to that fact.

Many are also waking up to realize that the biggest, most dangerous threat to the American People is the one that which our own government seemingly poses to both our safety & our liberties.

Our safety because they are squandering our national intel resources on domestic big brother bullshit, our liberties because they seem to think that their power over us lowly peasants is no longer limited by our Constitution.

Couple that with today's technology ease of abuse & it might be time for the American people to start having some semi-regular "tar & feathering" parties for some of their fellow Americans, just to remind those in posistions of power who works for who.

Well, Richard,

You and I don't know what else he has or hasn't got. I'm basing my opinion on the fact that if you will disclose one bit of info, you probably will disclose most anything else.

It’s laughable to hear communists talk about “assaults against the people’ or China talking about the U.S. “hacking” of Chinese telephone companies. The Chinese government attacks our businesses daily both in information theft and by marketing illegal copies of our products.

Everything that Snowden knows; they will know. He will not be allowed to pick and choose what he tells them. When they are done with him he will either be turned over to the U.S. in some great act of cooperation to help with whatever drama is going on at the time, or he will simply disappear. I suspect Mr. Snowden will discover that none of those people have any concern for his best interests and zero concern for the “American people”.

He is a traitor to his country.

Well since he left China, he must not have known much.

China won’t want to keep him in-country. You don’t think they will interrogate him in Cuba or Venezuela?

Posted

Yeah, you are right.  That's what we did, performed renditions and sent them to other countries for interrogations.  I believe we have some CIA Agents that can no longer travel abroad because there are are warrants for their arrest in Italy.  So imagine that China could do the same thing.  The thing is, if we hadn't been spying and gathering intelligence on our own people, the Government wouldn't be worrying about all this in the first place.

BTW, interesting article in the Washington Post about the FISA courts, today.

Seems like this is some sort of Secret Tribunal working in our country, one that's not transparent to the citizens of this country

He is a traitor to his country.

So was every, single individual who signed the Declaration of Independence.

I'm not necessarily putting Snowden on the same level.  However, when the government is betraying its own people then perhaps the only way to do the right thing for one's country and it's people is to act against that government.

When you have "Democrats" and "Republicans", more along the lines of progressives, or outright comunists

who perform traiterous acts against the Constitution daily, calling this guy a traitor is a bit too hypocritical.

John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, Dick Cheney, Lindsay Graham, John McCain and a long list of others in DC are

calling him a traitor. This should be an event that solidifies American loving individuals to throw a lot of politicians

out of office, because they are doing this country harm every day they exist in DC and this Snowden guy hasn't

the time to do anything else, other than run for his life, since they are all calling for his death, without affording

him his day in court. I'll bet you if he tried to surrender, there will be a bullet in his forehead before he gets that

day in court. He threatened the absolute power base.

I had an interesting one-sided discussion with a couple of ex-military, one or two who may have been involved in

clandestine affairs, or not, and they think he should face a firing squad. I tried to explain myself, but wasn't given

the time of day. The civilian is supposed to be in control of the military, not the opposite. That concerned me.

You swear an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Isn't that right? As a civilian

contractor, he signed a non-disclosure agreement. He is probably guilty of that, but I won't ever say treason until

he is found guilty in court. For those who wish to judge him so freely, consider your sources for your information.

Are they as reliable as you think? Or are you just assuming too much. Our country is dying because of some of

these assumptions made based on false information. The American public deserves to know what happens, and

Snowden deserves to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

Remember, he was first portrayed as a whistleblower. Now, he is a traitor? He was even portrayed as a spy. This kid

has balls, if only to stand up to tyranny. He knew what he was getting into, and he knows he has a short shelf life. Would

you give up a $200k/yr job to become a traitor for the wrong reason? I want to know the answer to that question before

anyone in our government kills him. Hell, Obama didn't find or grab the terrorists in Benghazi, did he? There is a Pakistani

doctor who is in prison for aiding our government in the killing of Osama. What about those secrets that made it to the

Chinese with the aid of VP candidate Albert Gore? Remember any of that? And don't tell me that two wrongs don't make

a right. There is something called consistency. The only consistency I see is a corruption of both political parties that

sees their power threatened.

Don't be so quick to judge him. Absolute power reared it's head with Hitler and even there were trials for war criminals

who were known to have done evil things during WWII. If this patriot is ever allowed to be judged in open daylight,

by a jury of his peers, I will be very surprised.

Thank you, Chuck.

I regret to say I left one name out that really disappoints me deeply, if true: Sarah Palin. I heard she was on the

progressive bandwagon wanting to see him dead. I'm getting real tired of pols running their mouths. They should

be doing their damned jobs and not polarizing this country for their own good, which is evil.

Admiral Greer in Patriot Games, one of my favorite actors and characters in a Clancy novel made into a movie,

laying in a hospital bed, dying of cancer, Greer looks up to Jack Ryan and says

"You took an oath, if you recall, when you first came to work for me. And I don't mean to the National Security

Advisor of the United States, I mean to his boss... and I don't mean the President. You gave your word to his

boss: you gave your word to the people of the United States. Your word is who you are."

Now, I know that was just a movie, but remember who you are loyal to before you go pound your chest and act like you

know something I don't, in the name of national security. Sometimes Clancy is full of idealism, but that was one time he

was dead to right. We should make sure we have people in charge we can trust to do our will.

Let's let this guy explain himself before we condemn him to death.

At the end of the day, the Constitution is all you and I have to rely on, not some press release.

I could also be wrong, couldn't I?

By allowing Snowden to leave the country, China just sent a strongly worded F You in response to the .govs strongly worded messages demanding Snowden's return. I love seeing Jay Carney act like a tough guy.

As apparently will Russia, Cuba, and Ecuador. Also seems Iceland was willing to do same.
