I have a friend who is a minor and he wants to know what the knife carry laws are for minors.  He knows not to take his knife to school.  But he wants to know if he can carry a knife under 4 inches.

I have been all over http://knife-expert.com/tn.txt and have found nothing stating any difference between carry for adults vs minors.  But I want to be sure that he won't get in trouble before I tell him anything.

AFAIK, there's nothing in TCA weapons statutes regarding any different standard for a minor than an adult as far as knife possession. Dunno if some other section might address it, but never heard of such.

And btw, it's "4 inches or less".

I have never heard of or seen any laws concerning minors with knives. Ive carried large blades and pocket knives since I was old enough to walk.

No special laws concerning minors that I'm aware of. My son carries a Victorinox everywhere except school.

I've carried a pocketknife since I was 7 years old.

sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

I've carried one since I was a kid, too.  However, I will also point out that I carried mine at school, the teachers knew it and no one ever objected.  In fact, as we didn't have pencil sharpeners in every room in my high school, some of the female teachers would sometimes either ask to borrow a pocket knife from one of us male students or would simply ask us to sharpen a pencil for them.  The male teachers didn't need to borrow ours - they all carried their own.

That was in the mid/late 1980s, though.  I imagine a student carrying a pocket knife to school these days would likely have a very different experience.  I'm simply throwing that out there to say that just because some of us who grew up in a more reasonable, common sense society (a society that still existed even as little as twenty or thirty years ago) carried knives at young ages it doesn't mean that it might not spell trouble for a youngster/minor in the Bizarro world we now live in.
