Anyone up for a solid week of camping?

Recommended Posts

I know most people don't ever get to hit the woods for more than a night, but would anyone be up to a week long camp this fall/winter. I'm thinking Oct/Nov. time frame. That way its cooled off some and snakes aren't such a big worry. It would be a 7 day camp, up in the mountains near my parents place. No cell phones except for emergencies. No real modern conveniences, just a week away from the hustle, bustle and bullshit of everyday life. Anyone up for it? I am posting this way early to give people who are intrested time to iron out travel and time off from work details. Ill be going, whether its just me or enough to have our own rendezvous. Let me know if your intrested and we will get a hard date ironed out.

Count Me in!! will it be a state campground or private. and where? Is it firearm friendly?

Its private land. Not a campground so much as just making camp out in the woods on a ridge. It is firearms friendly. Its near knoxville, tn

I'm afraid to stay out that long.  I know what will happen.

....i won't come back.

It's the same reason I have told the wife we can't take a vacation to Wyoming or Montana or Alaska ETC.  I know if I ever get out of here, I will make a few phone calls to my friends I have left behind.  "Hey, I left some crap at my house, go get it if you want it.  I won't be back for it."

Seriously, I'd love nothing more than to vanish amidst a grove of evergreen trees and never come back.

You boys have fun.

I can probably swing that as I get five days off a week, I would just need a good advance notice on the days to see if I can or not. We talking pack camping or truck camping? Also, whos land is it so I know what to bring as far as weapons are concerned.

I don't know about 7 days but it does sound like a good time! Lol

You can come for 1 day or 1 week. Makes no difference. I figure Sunday evening to Sunday evening should be a good trip.

Its my land so bring anything you want firearms wise. It will be truck camping, camp will be a couple hundred yards up in the woods out of a field.

Could there possibly be an option for a long weekend for those of us who don't have that much free time? ;)

By all means. Come for a day or a week. All up to you.

I am a whitewater kayaker and we camp whenever we paddle. NO CELL PHONES! I like it! I hate it when I am sitting around a campfire and some Schmuck pulls out a cell phone or other electronic brain sucking device. The campfire is a tradition and electronic light boxes are the devil. I make it a point now to tell everyone that if they want to sit around my campfire, they will have to leave their "light box" behind. A campfire is for people to talk to each other, express ideas, tell stories, tell jokes. When people get to the point when they cannot do without their "light boxes" then we are doomed. DOOMED I SAY! :pleased:

I could probably do a week in November, December would be even better.  I work seasonally and October is a big month, November is pretty slow though.  If this materializes please PM me and let me know as I forget to check this subforum on a regular basis.  Oh and I will be just fine without the phone, my wife gets onto me for leaving home without it all of the time.

I'd love to. I have hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 2010, as well as a lot of other hiking trails. I make a lot of my own gear, and keep my pack weight light(usually 25lbs with 6 days food and 1L water). I busted up my knees in the military, and doing those long hikes didn't help.

I am currently in college, so the only way I could do this would be fall break, and I'm not sure when that is. I think it would be a great experience, and we could learn a lot from each other. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I don't own a vehicle any more, so I'd have to take a bus to knoxville, then figure out a way to get there from there.

If you can get to Knoxville, I'll personally guarantee you a ride out to the campsite, even if I have to hijack a friend to do it.
