Howdy from Marietta, Ga.

 

 I thought I would spend some time here meeting n learning. My wife and I will be in your lovely state in the next few weeks enjoying our 28th anniversary. We are also going to be looking for some farm land while up there. I have a weapons permit from Ga. and I understand that it is honored by your great state. I'm just wanting to get a better handle on where we can and cannot carry. I understand signs carry weight . Do they have to meet certain requirments to be valid? Size, location etc.

Welcome. As far as the gun buster signs, there are no rules that I've seen. I've run across some that are quite large and easy to see and some very tiny on a clear background and easily overlooked. They are supposed to be displayed in the entrance area but not a specific location.

Check out the prohibited carry location sub forum and it might help give you a better idea if someone has seen that a specific place is posted.

there are a bunch of rules for the signs to be valid.   Most of us will avoid any place with even an incorrect sign, as we prefer to not spend our money there, but among other things the sign has to

 

1) be visible.  If its in the lower corner of the door 2 inches off the ground, and you missed it, honestly missed it, I think you could talk your way out with a warning.  This would be up to the responding officer or later, if it came to that, court/judge.   But most folks are reasonable enough in similar situations that I would not sweat over missing a microstamped sign.

 

2) be on all entrances.  If your entracnce was not signed, you are good to go, simply point @ that door and say "I came in there, where is this sign??"

 

3) it has to be on the external door.  If you get inside and suddenly they put one in the middle of the building, that is no good.  Lots of places do this, actually -- one restraunt I go to has the sign facing the EXIT door as you leave, from the inside you can see it. Derp.

 

4) the "many laws" sign in alcohol serving establishments does not count anymore.  The sign predates the current law and there is a disconnect.  This is the one that says drinking while pregnant is bad, having a gun in a place that serves is bad (WRONG NOW), etc.  That is not a "posting" its a forced sign that is incorrect. 

 

Other rules are nearly the same.  I would review them, however --- you can find them online easily enough (if you can't I will dig up a link, busy ATM).
