I did not know that about that old sniper scope...learn something new everyday.

 

Here is an picture from WWII.  Note that the sniper on the right has fired and his scope is now in the forward position.

Also note that the left sniper's rifle has a straight finger-groove stock and not a C-Stock with the pistol grip.  Some researchers think that this rifle would be one that was built from a pre-war match rifle since some of the USMC shooter didn't like the pistol grip.

Thanks for sharing the WWII pic...learning something new again today. I had orders to Marine Corps Sniper School when I was in the Corps, but broke my leg right before I was supposed to report to the school and never got another opportunity. I ended up with orders to Marine Security Guard School about 6 months later and spent the rest of my time in the Corps on Embassy Duty.

Sadly, I don't have enough knowledge to recognize such a diamond in the rough or the skills to restore one. Wish I did.
