Vendor: Fixed blade limit = 6 1/4"

Was at a flea market the other day and a knife seller told me that the TN legal limit for fixed blades is 6 1/4". I thought it was 4 inches no matter whether it was a folder or fixed blade. This seems to be backed up by this link. Is there a difference in law per blade type? Am I missing something here?

I think it is funny (as in odd, not comical) that, as an HCP holder, if I were so inclined I could legally carry so many firearms on me at one time that I could barely walk, can legally have (if I wish) multiple loaded long guns behind the seat of my vehicle but could be arrested and jailed for carrying a switchblade or a knife with a blade over 4 inches in length.  Are knives even more prone to jumping out and going on a killing spree, all on their own, than guns?

 

I think the whole switchblade thing comes from the same, senseless 'legislating by emotion' place that makes some moronic politicians want to ban firearms just because they have features which make them 'look' scary to some observers.  It has nothing to do with actual functionality, potential lethality or potential for misuse and everything to do with switchblades upsetting some nervous Nellies' sensabilities.

Yup hysteria after Hollywood started putting switchblades in the hands of "street thugs" who went around robbing/killing folks in movies with them.

Had they not made the scarey "click" sound when the blade was deployed Hollywood wouldn't have used them in their movies, but hey now that it's an assault knife why would any law-abiding citizen need anything sooo scarey like a folding knife that can be opened with only one hand! That is just crazy talk!

The real funny thing is that any of my flippers will deploy as fast and easily as a switchblade. You may have to develop a little skill for the manual knives, but the assisted ones go as soon as you mash the flipper. Dumbazz laws.

At least for a full auto firearm you can go through a background check and jump through the BATFE hoops and boom you have a full auto. Not so with a "full auto" knife. They should charge you a $20 tax stamp and let you carry it.

It is insane, period, to ban any type of hand to hand weapons in an era where *most* of the bad guys have guns.   Though most of our lawmakers still live in the era, the 1950s are over now.
