why was he saluting?  Shouldn't it have been hand over heart?

 

Rules for addressing the flag in the Flag Code were changed about 5 years ago at the request of Veterans organizations. Came across all AKO accounts. Of course all Military in Uniform salute, and it used to be all persons present not in uniform hand over heart which was changed to Military in Uniform, Out of Uniform and all veterans present salute, while all other persons present place right hand over heart.

 

I am certainly not going to take anything away from this kids actions because of flag etiquette. Id love to see every kid in the US face the flag every day and improperly salute.

 

Plus I watched an news interview with the kid today.

 

Asked "Why did you salute?" Answer "Because I have family that are veterans and my mom taught me to salute"

 

Asked "you could have just gone and got another cymbal why didnt you do that?"

 

Answer "Because it would have been inappropriate.

 

Comment "Seems your video went viral with 2 million views on youtube today"

 

Kids response "no, I think its now closer to 3 million"
