I put this in the same category as they guy who recently lost his carry piece on a ride at Disney World...none of us are immune from something like this but it's still 100% negligence on the part of the firearm owner.

Not just any gun, but a big ol honkin revolver

I was totally thinking to myself that one of my little j frames could end up in a bag by accident if I was careless. . . Then the picture loaded!

I think the people who do stupid stuff like this are more often than not people who don't carry very often or carry off their person (in a bag, briefcase, etc.) where it's useless in an altercation anyway.  Stupid should hurt.

That's not news.  The Detroit Police Chief tried that at Detroit Metro Airport.  He resigned over it.

What amazes me is that people say ..I forgot it was in there..

If you own guns and you forgot where they are at all times.. you should not own any..period. A gun is not a stick of  gum to be forgottten somewhere..

And how many people own so many guns that they cant keep track of them?

Juts plain dumb....

It happens faster then you'd think, I though one of my shotguns was at our place in Oregon for months(all winter) until I found it in the back of one of the the safes here. I ended up making a spreadsheet to track them between the various houses and safes. Not the most convenient solution but better than losing track of them by trying to do it all by memory.

I have to combat this very thing at home...I have at least one firearm in every room and I always keep them in the exact same place so that I don't have to "remember" when they are should I need one of them in a hurry...the only time they leave their "usual place" is when kids/guests are coming over or I'm leaving for a couple or more days (at which case they go back in the safe).

There is a reason my range bag is green and my carry on bags are black.
