Boil water using sun?

I ran across this on Amazon today.It has mostly 5 star reviews. Supposedly you can boil water in 30-45 minutes most of the time. Anyone ever try something like this? I'm thinking it would be nice to have for multiple reasons (power outage, camping, survival, etc). It'd be great for if you don't want a fire that draws attention.

Almost looks like some old piece of WWII ordinance long lost in France.

 

Idea seems good but even the good reviews say it wouldn't survive a drop since part of it is made from glass.

Problem is you would have to have bright sun.

I've seen things made from small satellite dishes that would work just as well and free. It just has to focus the suns rays....

I wouldn't mind seeing the solar rocket up close though.

If you don't plan on bugging out with it, you could save some money $$$ and create a solar oven for cheap. In one of my encountering classes my group spent less than $20 building one, our thermal couple read ~300 before we quit after a hour.

For purifying water, all you need is a clear polyethelene water bottle(#1 recycling symbol, stamped PET or PETE). Filter out the floaties and leave it in bright sunlight for 6 hours. It will be safe to drink. This purification method is called SODIS, and is used in 3rd world countries.

You can also use bleach, 2 drops per quart, shake, wait 30 mins. Boiling is good, let the water hit a rolling boil and it is safe(no need to boil for 5 or 10 minutes, ect. Once you see large bubbles, you are good).
