Maybe its just me but I've been hunting deer since I was old enough to carry a gun and eating deer since I was a baby. Im not worried about it and never thought about it. I would imagine that most of the "contaminated" meat came from the wound area. I dont take my deer to a processor anyway. I do everything myself so I know what cut meats I have and what area they come from. I try and stay away from the major wound area.

I'm 58 and I have been eating deer, rabbit, squirrels, ducks, quail, doves, wild pigs and just about anything else that can be shot and eaten since I was old enough to "gum it". I am sure I have swallowed more lead that I care to want to know. I will however, continue to do so. You posted some good info, and it's certainly something to think about, but it's too late into my life to worry about it now.

 

Oh, and, don't get me started on how bad "country ham and bacon" is for us!

I would bet all the processed and steroid induced meats sold at stores is worst for your body.

I actually broke a tooth at the fire department one day when I bit into a hamburger made from 100% pure beef from a local store. I bit into a shotgun pellet. And yes, the store paid my dental bill with no problems.

Neck or rib shot. A well placed shot and it won't be an issue. I too process my own deer and have not had a problem so far.

Process my own deer as well so it's never been a concern or issue. Worse can be found from the grocery store as mentioned above.

Looks like everyone here knows how to shoot a deer properly.  Only meat that has a wound channel in it when I get done is the rib cage and there just ain't much meat on that.
