Jesse Ventura Sues Wife of Slain Navy SEAL Chris Kyle

Recommended Posts

Not doubting you tdr but where are they documented?

Plenty of places, but Michael Mooney says Kyle confirmed the gas station incident to him.

Nicholas Schmidle claims to have interviewed three people that were in the room when Kyle told the Katrina story.

Did either one of the incidents happen? Of course not. The gas station incident could have happened, but it would not have been kept secret; too many people would have been involved. The Katrina incident is ridiculous, it was obviously a drunken sea story.

I follow Breach Bang Clear (www.breachbangclear.com) pretty regularly and have found that the Mad Duo are generally spot on with most things.  When they posted an couple of articles this week about the Chris Kyle estate lawsuit, it made me take a second look.  One in particular linked to a summary posted on The National Review's web site.

There's some good reading here.  There is no doubt that Ventura is an asshat, but maybe not for the reasons we have all come to accept.

Very interesting.  While I still think Ventura is a schmuck, this has swayed my opinion of the suit and judgement.

After reading the linked stories, the truck shooting is plausible, some of the story is not.katrina,,,, sea story as well, the jesse knockout, plausible cause other things have happened at association functions beside old timers getting juiced w young guys....
But to sue a widow over spilled milk is still some pussy ass bs.

Chris could have stopped this whole thing, period.  It was his (and his wife's I am guessing) ego that caused this to go on, not Ventura.  I am not defending other things Ventura may have said or done in the past, but on this I am 100% behind Ventura.  If it was you he defamed calling you a child molester (used as an example in the article David linked to) and you lost your job and probably a lot of other things and you couldn't make a living similar to what you have now, would you drop the suit?  I wouldn't.  Does that make me a scumbag, I don't think so.  Would I care if you think so, no.  I am not convinced Chris is any more of a good guy than Ventura.  Being an egotistical "patriot" doesn't make it right.  All Chris had to do was apologize and it would have been over.  I think that was a reasonable request on Ventura's part and Chris' ego wouldn't allow him simply say, your're right it isn't true.  These 5 words would have saved his estate (note I did not say wife) 1.8 million dollars.  That is on him.

Spilled milk is the Jesse v Kyle crap. Going on national media wanting to bring Howard stern into a presidential campaign and engaging in conspiracy crap after serving as a governor is enough to turn credibility into crap. His lawyers proved he lost income after the remark was made.hes capable of making millions, if he can focus on reality and not alien crap. If he really wants to win he should tear his settlement check in half and give his portion back to the wife.that would earn him millions back, instead of relying on Area 51 crap.
What burns my ass is someone of Ventura s stature claiming they can't function after someone was talking smack. That's teenage girl drama. The teenagers move on,eventually. Most people forget about incidents after 5 to 8 years. Instead of doing a media blitz saying it was bs. He kept the demon running for over how many years. I still say he's a pussy for going after a dead vets estate. If she had nothing but his burial flag what would he have done. Pussy.in my opinion.
He gets my respect if he keeps 1 dollar returning the rest.Side note: if it was BS Kyle should have apologized unless he just wanted to screw w him at any cost... Edited by Dustbuster

Jesse's $1.8 million "win" is a Phyrric Victory in the court of public opinion. The money is just so much dry grass in his mouth. The optics of the case damage him more than if he had won a dollar and had bought the widow a cup of coffee with it. He has personally done more than $1.8 million in damage to himself by pursuing this case beyond his adversary's grave.

This. The fine details of the story only matter to a few. On the surface, Jesse looks like an asshole. That's about as deep as most folks are gonna look. It's exactly how Obama got reelected.

Without the lawsuit, Jesse can't earn a living because everyone thinks he wished death upon American soldiers.  With the lawsuit, he can't earn a living because everyone hates him for suing the widow of a war hero.  BUT, with the lawsuit, he has a $1.8 million judgment (or whatever's left after his lawyers get paid).  Seems like he came out ahead.

Think they might have dried up because people lost interest in this schmuck, and jackass blamed a convenient story?

That would be my guess.  The jury seemed to think differently.

For the record, I don't like Jesse, either.

Should he have dropped the suit once Kyle died? It was started long before that and even Kyle had a chance to testify before he died. That video was given to the jurors.

Right.  He did not sue Kyle's widow.  The lawsuit was filed about a year before he was killed.  Since Kyle's wife was the executor of his estate, she had to deal with it after his death.  That's just how it works.

I don't know if this suit was in California, but it is a community property state. My WAG is that they had to sue her too since they were married and both owned the money from the book.

No, she was not named in the initial suit, just him as the author and the publisher.  When he was killed it all fell into her lap as executor.  It'd be that way anywhere unless he had a will that named someone else as executor of his estate.

Which IMHO is a good idea...  do you really want your wife having to worry about all that stuff when she is worried about putting you into the ground?

My will has a list of executors, my wife is #4 on that list...  so most likely she won't have to deal with that stuff.

So the Court of Public Opinion should carry more weight than the Court of Law?  I'm not defending JV for being an asshole, but I do think we need to remember that Justice is supposed to be blind to the public opinion.  What people think about you shouldn't override what the Law says you are entitled to, whether it is compensation for damages, freedom from wrongful prosecution, or the right to bear arms.

I generally trust jury decisions but this decision was quite a departure from the norm.

No one can deny that Ventura is a public figure and as such has very little protection from defamation, slander and libel - the bar for these has been pretty high when it comes to public figures and a lot of what is said about politicians and celebrities on public forums like TGO would probably be actionable if that bar wasn't as high as it was. ;)

I'll trust the jury/court in this case but nothing is going to change my opinion of Ventura; I, like a lot of people, thought he was a pile of crap long before Kyle ever said anything about him and Venture continuing a lawsuit against Kyle's widow just makes the pile bigger but doesn't change the substance.

Edit: Fixed it for myself! LOL
