Cop haters need not read ...

Great restraint on the deputies and a good wake up call for my brother and sister EMS providers. I have only once in my career broken in to a home (without the police) for a life alarm activation. We were in verbal contact with the patient the whole time through a window but they were unable to get up to let us in. That dosnt mean it could not have been a hostage situation and we were going to walk in to a room with a gun in our face.

Moral of the story: your safety, your partners safety, everyone else. In that order only. Edited by RedLights&Sirens

Unfortunately situations like this can be common.  It is good to see that the deputies did their job well and nobody was injured on either side.

Those Sherriff's are some fine men. They deserve some recognition beyond this article for handling this situation so well!

I can imagine this going much worse, considering they identified themselves when they entered.

It can't be easy to have ANYone point a gun at you. Impressively handled situation. Kudos to those deputies.

Here in Tipton County for the first time in my life we have a Sheriff to be proud of. His department is top shelf.

Wonder if that gentleman was charged with anything?

I will bet not, but you can count on an attempt to take his weapons (either by government or by family).  Be interesting to know how it ends up...

Scary stuff, but so glad the LEO's were calm enough to not return fire and kill him.

I didn't realize there were specific "cop haters" around here. Good story, though. The cops showed good

judgement. Glad it ended well.

Yep, glad to see some common sense these days. Looks like everyone handled it as it should be. Even the old guy. Sucks he fired at police, but I'm guessing his hearing is not great and truly feared for his life. Glad they retreated and made contact versus opening fire like so many similar stories on the web.

The Cop Haters are random and depends on the subject matter. These officers are to be commended as they show some serious restraint! Kudo's to them!

Great news indeed! Thanks for sharing this story. It's good to hear when LEO do a great job in a tough situation. All too often it only gets reported when they make a mistake.

Not a hater, but I do have a serious lack of trust when I comes to most LE. I do not want to group them all together but man if they want to make your life miserable they can. Justified or not.

I expect that comment was aimed squarely at me.....too bad, I would like to have read the story. :pleased:

I'm glad to see that a few of our LEO are decent, thinking human beings. Far to often that isn't the case.

Just a few of them though, right?

Is there a chance that we hear bad cop stories more in the news because it garners more interest from readers as opposed to a headline stating that Officer Joe executed his duties appropriately and with respect to the citizen? Isn't this the tactic we blame the media for in regard to always running stories depicting gun use in a bad light and ignoring stories of justified self defense?

Couldn't agree more. I notice most of the cop-bashing stories on this forum are picked up from news articles. When I read threads about TGO members interacting with LEO's (usually HCP-related contacts) the majority of the stories are positive. Sure there are bad cops, but not nearly as many as the media would have you believe.

I'd say that far too often those decent thinking LEOs are never in news reports for doing decent thinking things. Stupidity makes the news, regardless of profession. Unfortunately, that means a profession often in the news usually gets a bum rap across the whole lot.

I'd say you are right on target. I imagine most LEOs go about their daily business, and don't give a hoot one way or the other what you are doing as long as you aren't breaking the law. The other few, unfortunately, are usually the ones I seem to interact with for some reason.
