Haven't seen a thread pertaining to this so I guess I'll start one AND if there is one, BAH, we start another!

 

My first bike was a Kawasaki ZX-6R and had it for a few years but after doing a couple of long rides and having bad knees I decided I needed to retire the rocket in favor of something more comfortable.I NOW have a 2011 Harley Streetbob(FXDB), I call her Sharlene after a dear friend from highschool who was killed years ago. She has V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes, a re-tune, forward controls, and a HD Sundowner seat. It's pretty stock and slow compared to my last bike but it's comfy and I love it.

Ill go with what I have had (That I can remember) as I am not a current owner. In no particular order.

 

90 CC Yamaha, was one of those with the chrome sided tank, rubber pads on the tank and a red strip down the center. 60something.

Those are a few I owned. Owned more but cannot remember what they were, sometimes I would buy a bike and trade it a week later, especially back in the late 70's.

Here's one. Some old-timers will recognize this late icon from KickStand Lodge. It was Fred's last ride. The actual speed during this photo was well into triple digits (despite the file name). If I may ask in here, does anyone know anything about the class put on by Bumpus Harley in Memphis? Last I checked it was about $300, worth it?

Yeah, it's worth it. Difference between getting on a bike in your drive way and heading out in to traffic and taking two-three days with a riding instructor in a parking lot learning the basics of stop, go and turn.

Also, if it's an approved class, your insurance will be reduced by a percentage per month. My bud took a MSF course and reduced his by about $15 a month, paid for itself a lil over a year later.

Even though I rode for years. Every couple of years I took a MSC. Although I hit the road a 16, first time I took one I was 24. Surprised me the number of riders there that had been riding for years, a couple of guys on Gold Wings that had been riding since before I was born taking MSC. Reasons, as stated above, one was reduction in Insurance costs, another was even though you have been on the road for years, its always good just to brush up on the rules and it only takes a few hours. Some places have courses for different levels of experience.

When I first read this thread today, I was sitting in the Bellbuckle Cafe about 2:30.  My wife and I rode over to have a late lunch and enjoy a day on the Goldwing. We met a couple there that was riding a trike, and he was an Air Force veteran, about my age (60). Very nice couple and we had a grand time outside of the Cafe just shooting the breeze. We had a nice conversation about our 19 year old son who is in the Army National Guard (2 years just signed up for 6 more) and making a career out of it as soon as he finishes college (on their dime). I tried to post a pic, but no access at Bellbuckle apparently.

It was a great day for riding.  Not too hot.  Not too cold. put about 350 miles on the Wing and it was good. And YES...that's a TGO sticker on the windshield of the Goldwing.....LOL

Great looking bike TGR!! I love the nomads.  I wanted one so bad several years ago but couldn't find one and bought an 1500 intruder.  I never got the nomad.  I have a friend that's wanting a bike really bad to ride with me and my wife (goldwing) and that's the bike I recommended for him.  He's a BIG dude, but has never rode.  I told him to buy it, I'd ride it home and he could practice in my neighborhood until he was ready to take the safety course. He's quite a bit younger than me, but a great guy. I told him he wasn't riding with me until he took the Safety Course. I've took it 3 times and highly recommend it to new riders especially, plus you can get your license stamped for MC during the course.   I've always found it's better to buy the bike you want and learn to ride it than to buy a POS little bike and wish you'd bought a bigger one in 3 months or less. The Nomad is THE bike for cruis'n........

Thanks! The Nomad is a great bile for us big guys. Very comfortable, with plenty of leg room. This one is a 1500, and it hauled my big butt around just fine. I bought it used with the Kuryakyn hypercharger air cleaner and Vance & Hines dual baggers. The guy didn't have it tuned right, so I took it to TNT Performance Dyno for a jet kit. I was bummed when it sold, but I wanted all the down payment I could come up with for the new house, so it had to go.

First bike was a new 1989 Yamaha DT I got when I was like 11 or 12.

Next was a new 1996 Honda CBR 600F3 when I was 19.

Last bike was a used 2000 Honda CR 500R that I modded a bit. High comp head, Vforce reed valve, PWK 41mm Pro, Wiseco prolite, Pro Circuit Platinum pipe, FMF Power Core 2, running on VP C12, etc.

 

 

 

 

That's the one I regret selling. Should have kept it. I hope to replace it with a Service Honda CR 500AF in the future.

Yea it'll accelerate and pull hard thru all the gears and even at cruise speed a snap of the wrist and you're 20-30 mph almost instantly.
