Well... I've owned XD (45C), XD(m) (3.8 45), and M&P (FS 9mm). I can understand your problem!  

 

I wouldn't be concerned at all about the failure to go into battery on the M&P when riding the slide home. That's really a non-issue and quite common among a variety of guns. They're just not meant to work that way.

 

Personally, I'd keep the M&P for the +2 rounds and night sights if all other factors were equal. Tough choice though since they're both solid firearms with a good track record.
