I spent 2 hours today putting my new ruger 22/45 lite back together. I don't know that I will ever take it apart again!

I spent 20mins putting a customers back together because I forgot the new mkiii have mag disconnects. I ripped mine out the first day I had it so I forgot it even had one. The second I inserted the mag it dropped right in. I highly recommending putting a mkii bushing in the mkiiis

I loled!

Seriously though my MKIII has well over 8k rounds by now and has been cleaned maybe twice. I doubt I will ever strip it again at this rate. If the barrels fouled I run a wet patch or two through it and if the action starts looking too grimy I just spray some balistol down there and wipe out the chamber with a qtip. I may look into a lite model or other 22/45 and if so I doubt I clean that one ever.

I've ripped the mag disconnects out of a dozens of MKIIIs and replaced them with standard MKII bushings or this guys machined product.  I took the LCI out of several also.  I used this guy's product to fill the gap where the LCI went in mine.  I just don't like all the gunk that accumulates around the LCI.  If you replace replace the sear and trigger with VQ parts you will drop your trigger pull to a clean 2.75lbs.

This part more accurately replaces the space of the mag disconnect in MKIIIs

+1 for the Mark ll bushing and VQ trigger.  I changed mine out a week after I bought it. I can live with the LCI. because I didn't think to replace it when I made the other mods.

I've already got those parts (except the LCI replacement - thanks for the link, mine will be here soon).  A couple years ago I spoke to a Ruger tech after multiple no-gos getting the mainspring to behave, and his little tricks made it happen in seconds.  I asked him why they weren't in the manual, and replied "man, we've been trying to get those steps in there for years.  I don't know."

I think all Ruger Mark owners have been down this road.  I have a Ruger Standard, same deal.  It doesn't run right when it is dirty so I keep it pretty clean.  I've reassembled it successfully numerous times but usually have to look to Youtube because I forget how to do it.

That's one benefit to the newer design then, I leave my MKiii dirtier than a Tijuana prostitute and it still runs like a champ... Kind of like a Tijiuana prostitute actually.
