Couple of decent deals

At the moment Home Depot has one of the best bang-for-the-buck medium-duty toolboxes I've seen lately. It is a 40 inch wide, 60 inch tall, 19,370 cu inch, 10 drawer tool chest for $299. This guy is 18" deep both bottom and top chest. Previous cheap 40 inch cabs they had were only 14 or 15 inches deep. Drawers are only rated for 50 pounds each, so this wouldn't be a good choice to fill up with mechanics tools then roll it around here and there, but its perfect for my uses, just lots and lots of decent storage to park in a corner, and roll it around once in awhile if necessary.

Last year I got a couple of 26 or 27 inch wide HD tool cabs and I've been real happy with them. This last one I hope will be the "magic bullet" to finish putting my pack-rat collection in some kind of order.

And a couple of new LED bulbs that might be arguably "overpriced" compared to CFL or whatever, but seem pretty good for the money. Cree 9.5 watt, 60 watt equivalent LEDs with about 800 lumen output. $13 or $14 apiece.

And a 6 watt, 40 watt equivalent LED with 450 lumen output for $10 apiece-- http://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-6-Watt-40W-A19-Warm-White-2700K-Dimmable-LED-Light-Bulb-1-Pack-BA19-04527OMF-12DE26-1U110/203991778

The surface texture of these bulbs feels weird. Never held a bulb that feels like this. They have a "tacky" feeling frosted plastic that feels like a hard rubber ball with a little contact cement sprayed on. The bulbs don't leave fingerprints or sticky residue on the fingers and I don't think there is anything wrong with them. It is probably intentional design. They are just crazy grippy and you would have to be a real klutz to lose yer grip and drop one.

In my office I moved the three other-brand 40-watt equivalent LEDs to another location in the house and put three of the cree's in the office overhead fixture. They are noticeably brighter than the three previous 40-watt equivalants. In the ballpark of 2400 lumens for 28.5 watts of load.

Been gradually replacing all the house bulbs with LED's, and the typical 40 watt equivalent LED's make me happier than CFL Ain't had any go dead on me yet. The 40 watt equivalent LED's are pretty bright with nice color balance. Predictable color balance as well. When buying CFL's it is a crap shoot what color you will get even if you pay attention to the color temp on the package. Some supposedly "warm" colored CFLs will actually turn out so cold they are practically blue, so it is hard to properly match a set of bulbs in a fixture if you only need to replace one. Wife never liked CFL's, even the "warm color" CFL's but she likes the lower-color-temp LED's better than incandescents.

I like these "cheap" cree 60 watt equivalents so far, unless they decide to go bad sooner than the manufacturer's estimates.
