Walther Mod PP 7.65 m/m

This handgun belongs to a friend of my dads. She was going to see if I could "clean" it up for her. I personally am not going to touch the gun. All it needs is to be taken apart and some oil put on it. Don't want to ruin the value by cleaning it up. Was wondering if anybody could give me some good history on the gun and a good gunsmith to take it to, to have it serviced. Thanks! She said her dad brought it back from WWII. Figured I would share it with y'all.

I just refinished a CZ50 that looks very similar to that Walther.  The CZ was not very good to look at when I acquired it so I gave it a Dura Coat face lift and replaced some parts (firing pin, springs, etc.).  If you are located near Nashville, I will be happy to look it over for you for a very small fee.  PM me if you are interested.

are you looking for a full restoration or a retroing ??

All this fine old pistol needs is to be shot, no need for a gunsmith "good to go, yep it's fine, now pay me" unless you know it's broken, which I doubt it is. 

 

Near as I can can make out it is a nazi-era PP made around 1941.  It's obviously been left in a holster for too many years, a sad fate for many old bring-backs and other pistols, regardless is looks better and is far more valuable in it's current state than if refinished in some disgusting two-tone or any other spray paint.

Well Mr. Garufa, I was not suggesting, in your words, a "disgusting two-tone spray paint" job on his Walther.   I simply offered to carefully examine and proof fire the pistol.  I have several firearms related certifications and I was offering my assistance as a good faith gesture.   

 

I refinished my pistols using Dura Coat.  It's not common spray paint but a premium firearms coating.  They are not high value arms such as the topic pistol of this thread.  Unfortunately, your propensity to insult combined with your condescending attitude is sometimes encountered on internet forums.   However, I wasn’t expecting to encounter an individual such as yourself here on the TGO forum.  Most TGO members show respect for other members, their opinions and their projects.

Hold on there a minute.  I merely attempted to convey that the pistol as it is most likely does not require the services of a gunsmith, nor does it require refinishing in the style implied by your pictures. The OP also cleary stated he did not want it "cleaned up" which most would take to mean refinishing, thus the pictures of the nice work you did are really irrelevant.

 

Quite often people think guns that have been sitting around for 50 years need to be "checked out", it simply is not true.  I'm trying to save the guy a few bucks.  BTW, are you a professional gunsmith?

 

While I personally do not like two-tone guns and am enough of a purist that I would rather have a half-rusted, no-finsish classic than having a refinished one, that's just me.  A CZ-50 I might even cold blue myself, a '41 PP, not a chance.  I understand than many people have no problems doing whatever is they do guns, it's their property and they can do as they please. 

 

Do you need any further explanations from me?  If you feel insulted then I recommend you cope with it as that was not my intent.

There is no need for that tone.  Garufu is an upstanding guy and has been a member here for a very long time.  I'm also sure he ais quite familiar with what Dura Coat is.  The pistol in question would be worth a lot more left in it's current state, than if it were refinished.  I believe that was what Garufu was pointing out.  Also agree that all the pistol needs is a good cleaning and a little range work.

I never suggested, implied or offered to Dura Coat or refinish the weapon in question.    I offered to inspect it for a very small fee. 

 

I agree 100% that the firearm in question is worth more "as is", like most valuable and rare classics.  However, prudence dictates that a careful inspection and cleaning should be performed before taking the pistol in question to the range for proof firing. 

 

Mr. Moped, I find it very curious that you are taking exception to "my tone" when Garufa's  quote "more valuable in it's current state than if refinished in some disgusting two-tone or any other spray paint" followed my offer to inspect the weapon.  I merely stated the obvious and there is no "tone" to my statement.

 

To answer Garufa's question regarding my qualifications, I could list them chapter and verse but suffice to say that my firearms experience began prior to my military service.  I have 45-years of firearms related experience but I do not claim to be an expert.  However, I am well informed and possess machinist skills.

 

The bottom line is that I don't enjoy being insulted or slighted.  Garufa published an offensive statement and I called him on it.  If Garufa was an "upstanding guy", as you say, he wouldn't make offensive statements on the forum.  He would also "own" his error and apologize for making a statement that he shouldn't have.  Perhaps he did not mean it to sound the way is does but nevertheless, he penned it.

TLR:  Thanks for posting pictures of this great piece of history.  I love the Walther PP pistols, and this one is very special.  I've got a little CZ 27 myself that is nazi marked with the swastika and eagle.  Mac's post above about covers everything.  That's exactly what i did with the CZ.  It works great.

If I were closer, I would suggest just letting me fondle that Walther.  After that, by the time all the drool was wiped off, the pistol would be clean.  Then you'd just need to oil and shoot it.

Haha thanks for the responses guys. I was able to break it down and wipe it off. Just applied a little oil and she's good to go. Was pretty dry. Already gave it back to the owner. Just figured in would share some pics of this beautiful firearm!
