I'll bet this was an exciting landing.

How do you hit a giraffe?

I mean... out there do giraffe's spring in front of your vehicle like deer?

I mean, yeah, sure... they run pretty quickly... but look how much open space there is on that field. Even if it were to "dart out" in the way, I would think the pilot most likely could have throttled up and circled around for another attempt. :yum:

If the giraffe ran right out in front of the pilot as he was about ten feet from landing, there'd be no way to avoid him... a little Cessna like that isn't going to just climb right up out of the way instantly, and the controls get kind of sluggish at approach speeds as well.

I'm amazed that the plane set down in one piece and right-side up after that collision.

he probably could have missed it....just like a lot of deer "accidents" here happen. How else can you re-stock the deer meat out side of deer season? Must not be giraffe season just yet either.

He might not have noticed it before it was too late. You've got a lot on your plate when you get pretty close to touchdown so they probably weren't as focused on the surroundings as much as they should have been. That and the controls get pretty damn sluggish and you're pretty close to stall speed so they might not have been able to pull up anyway if they did see it. Ah the joys of flying.

Did you hear the one about the giraffe who got his neck squished in half? He said, "Well, it won't be long now!"

That is insane. I could see how it could happen on landing though cause in those little planes it seems like you are falling like a rock and doing about 80 or 90 mph. No really much time to look left and right.
