Wow, what would you do if you found the Mayor had your daughter's dog shot and killed

Sorry for posting the gory photo but I wanted others to be as shocked as the 17 year old girl that found her dog that way.

“And like five minutes later we heard the gunshot and rushed over here and we seen the dog right there,” Sowl said.

Moments later Sowl claims he saw the mayor and Dowell police officer Ralph Smith leaving the area. The family said the dog never showed signs of being aggressive; and what they can’t understand is why the dog had to die.

Here is the picture he posted. Click on it if you must see the dog after it has been shot.

You can bet they will say that the dog was trying to attack them. If that was the truth then they would have not fled the scene. The guilty usually run.

I would, without a doubt, have someone's ass if they did that. I say it all the time that people are aweful and this is just another cause of people being aweful. If my dog was aggressive towards someone and was not on my property then yeah defend yourself.

I find it hard to believe a mayor was at the scene of a loose dog unless they were there for some other reason. Hate to bring up conspiracy crap but who is to say they didn't let the dog go in the first place. There were 409 residents in Dowell according to the last census, hard to believe there isn't more to the story.

I bet there is a background between all those involved, the mayor, the officer and the dog's owners. Too bad the dog had to pay the price for some aweful humans.

I won't. I'd do jail time if someone shot one of my dogs and it wasn't an act of self defense. And considering 3 of my dogs are 8 lb malti poos, thats gonna take a hard argument. I might do jail time, but whoever did it would be spending the time I was in jail learning to eat through a straw, walk, and form words again if they ever came out of Coma

Some people are just assholes that need to be on the list to die soon and make the world a better place.

People that abuse animals for the fun of it are top of that list...people that would kill a dog without justification are not far behind.

Some people are simply still alive, because it is against the law to kill them!!!!

This I think is spot on. A town that small, there is more to this story. I own bulldogs and have one on strike 2 right now. I couldn't pull up pic at work what kinda dog.

I had not owned a pet in over 20 years. No time for it and could not understand the way some people feel about their animals Two years ago our SIL came to stay a while. Here Cat came and stayed over a year and a half. Me and that cat, all day long alone while the wife and SIL were away at work, Im retired and apparently so was the cat, so we were retired together. Didnt take me long to figure out why people treat their pets like their babies. He is now 13 years old and a LOT smarter than I gave cats credit for. He went back to TN a month ago and I still miss that da__ cat.

Yea, I think I would have been pretty PO'd had that happened to my pet, and especially so if that were my kids pet.

Says lab mix but it looks like a pit mix. That is what I could tell from the photo. It is a photo that is not for the faint of heart or animal lovers.

OK so has the cop been de commissioned ? and had a psych eval after his horrific traumatic shooting??? if he hasnt he should be.

someone needs to go straight to the grand jury in that jurisdiction and get both idiots charged with a handful of things.i dont see color of law on this one.Maybe the big karma locomotive will do its thing and run over both of these turds.....this is bad cause this keeps happening over and over....

Just like the media shows pictures of a young Trayvon to get sympathy you post a picture of the dog as a puppy impying it was a puppy at the time it was shot, it wasn't a puppy. It even says in the article you posted that the dog was 2 years old and not a puppy.

And although it is very tragic someone lost their pet it is the owners fault for not having control over their dog. Had their dog not gotten out the officer would not have been called. And there is no one to say the dog didn't try to bite the officer in which case I say shoot the dog because I would. The dog getting out it is the owner's fault, not the officer, not the mayor and especially not the dog but it was the dog that paid the price for an irresponsible owner.

If the owners are looking for someone to blame I suggest they start with a look in the mirror.

Like I said there is more history here than being reported. Who is to say the dog hasn't gotten out several times before and was aggressive people.  We don't know because the only story we are getting is that of the owners looking to blame anyone but themselves.

I am the biggest dog, and animal, lover you will ever find and that is why I am so upset.
